how many aspies here don't have a special Interest

I do, a very big one, its Sonic, im just wondering if anyone is out there without one.

Aspie or not, I'm reasonably sure everyone alive has at least one... I had several as a kid, and they've been blending into a 24/7 study habit ever since.

I've had them in the past, like several years ago is the last one I can remember. Medieval philosophy, Aquinas and the Scholastics and all that, IIRC. At the moment though, no real obsessions, but lots of passions. Dunno why but the whole "special interest" thing kinda just went away once I hit my middle teenage years.

I don't, and it really frustrates me.

If I did, I might be able to turn it into something I could make a living from. Instead, I tend to develop very short term obsessions, and then it's like GAME OVER, MAN, GAME OVER!

The only times I don't have all-consuming interests are when I am very depressed.

my special interest is philology, which is obscure enough it took me a while to figure out what it was. I'll obsess over a given subject until I understand the discourse going on around it, at which point I lose interest in that subject and move on to a new one. I lean heavily towards history and linguistics but essentially my interest is in how people are coming up with and transmitting ideas, rather than the particular ideas themselves.

I don't have an intense interest but I can heavily invest/focus on something I am interested in at any moment.

To some extent I guess you could call my special interest is being a dilettante of sorts.
I know a bunch of stuff about a bunch of subjects although I do learn very in depth things about some stuff if I become very interested in a particular aspect of a subject or I if need to for practical reasons like my work.

I'm not terribly interested in everything I learn or in all subjects, but there are quite a few areas of various subjects I find interesting.
Some people are surprised when I know some of the things that I do, but there are large gaps in my knowledge, and all sorts of subjects most people know something about I have very little knowledge of.

I stopped having special interests around age 21. I have no idea why, but I'm just not as passionate about anything as I was when I was a child/teen. It greatly saddens me, and I have tried everything in my power to develop new special interests, but no matter what it is that I'm trying to focus on, it's just not the same as it was before.

My mom (who is my closest friend and confidante) says that I seem "unfulfilled" and that I remind her of Scrat from the Ice Age series - constantly chasing something that is forever out of my reach. It is a figurative comparison, because for Scrat it was a physical object, his nut - but for me it is something intangible, my special interests.

My mom also says that at times I seem "desperate" (for a new interest) and that I seem "confused" whenever I try to talk about it, like what I'm saying doesn't make any sense (probably doesn't help that I'm usually in my "pressure-to-talk-meltdown" mode whenever I decide to bring the subject up). But one of her absolute favorite phrases to use is "obsessed with being obsessed" (in other words, completely consumed with my quest for a special interest).

My mom says that I have seemed "a lot more calm" and "less desperate" ever since I got a much-needed dosage upped on one of my medications, and it's true that I don't bring it up in conversation nearly as often as I used to. But my desire for a special interest still remains. It feels like I will always have a void in my life unless I can recapture my ability to have special interests.

I haven't had one since I was pretty little, and I don't really miss it.

I actually feel pretty empty when not off doing some of my special interests, so I'm not even sure if I'll be able to outgrow it.

I took the Kuter (sp?) preference test in school. It was supposed to determine from your interests what field you should go into. Candid Camera once did a show in a school counselors office telling kids that the results of their test showed that they should be a shepherd. One kid said, "My father is going to kill me". I thought that was pretty sad.

My test results showed I was interested (above a 70) in all categories. I even then questioned the utility of such tests.

I have had obsessive special interests, but more when I was younger. In my 20s I spent a couple of months trying to trisect and angle using only a straight edge and a compass. I did develop a proof, but it was only for a 60 degree angle. I couldn't find a solution for acute or obtuse angles.

I think as we get older, we become more aware of the limitations of such resources as time and begin to limit ourselves more to what is practical.

Not at the moment, my interests are all over the place and keep changing.

My biggest interest has always been computers. It's probably because I was introduced to the computer at a very young age. I never took an interest in playing with toys (I was scared of them in case they made noises). I wouldn't really call my interest obsessive, though.
I also like cartoons and Vocaloid as well.

Mine are not as strong as they used to be.
