http://www.twitch.tv/chrizzzzzzz is doing a livestream to benefit them right now. I know I probably should just ignore this, but it really does hurt to more and more supporting such a hateful organization. So anyone want to help me out, maybe we could even get the money to benefit actual autistics.

P.S. I tired to teach him about Autism Speaks, I was banned for not being "positive" enough.

What's wrong with Autism Speaks?

To be honest, I haven't really... heard of the organization.

Not American I take it? Basically they claim to speak for autistics while not having one autistic member on their board, and frequently say quite hateful things about autistics.

Ah, I see.

I am American, though. I guess I just don't pay much attention to organizations.

Thanks for the explanation.

Pretty much if you ever see a commercial about autism, its Autism Speaks.

P.S. Try this link if you couldn't use my first one http://gogetfunding.com/project/24-hour ... ct_details

Well over 5,000 now, I hate seeing good people be so duped, especially when I know it will hurt those like us in the end.

I am thinking we should do a counter fundraiser, maybe for something like ASAN, where we say what is so bad about Autism Speaks as well. Maybe get 5 people together to play LoL or something like that.

Could I ask what type of "hateful" things they say?

I know some are opposed to their talk of seeking a "cure" for autism, but aside from that I don't know much about them...except that John Robison disconnected himself from them.

You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

What would these results mean? Been told here I must be a "half pint".

Well, they produced the 'Autism Every Day' video, which is just nonstop hate. One of the highlights is when a mother, in front of her autistic daughter, talks about how she contemplated committing a murder-suicide with her autistic daughter, and decided not to because of her NT daughter.

Okay, so what are they trying to get across? Are they trying to sell an "autism cure" or something?
I watched THIS and I'm thinking, okay so they are special needs kids like a bunch of other types of special needs kids. What's the point of this?
I also found it interesting how there were just moms and no dads. My dad has played a huge roll in caring for me.

Autism Speaks is a charity that is entirely run by neurotypical individuals, doesn't have a single autistic board member or advisor or employee, and acts as if we can't speak for ourselves. And even though this organization receives the lion's share of autism-related donations, it doesn't spend a single cent on helping or assisting adults on the spectrum as far as I'm aware. On top of that, A.S. has a history of intimidating and taking legal action against autistic bloggers who disagree with their propaganda and agenda.

A.S. gives the impression that parents of autistic children are the real sufferers of autism. Autism is merely "a disease that has taken their children away", not a disability issue. Consequently, the main focus of A.S. is the funding of research with the goal to treat, cure or eliminate autism by any means possible. Some of this research raises ethical concerns regarding eugenics. Equally concerning is their advocacy of heavily medicating autistic children in order to reduce "disruptive behaviours" and make life easier on the parents.

The problems faced by adults with ASDs in an ableist society are completely ignored by this organization that pretends to speak for us. If anything, A.S. contributes to anti-autistic ableism and the view of autism as as horrible disease that turns its sufferers into a burden on society. This is especially problematic since A.S. is not only a major online (mis)information source about autism, but also spends a lot of money on "raising awareness", i.e., on propagating a view that stigmatizes us rather than making our lives easier.
