my dad is an Introverted codependent, and most likely has ADHD.

his childhood consisted of loneliness and bullies but he had an abundance of friends in highschool.

he also has Obsessive tendencies

but doesnt meet the criteria for aspergers.

i read that through Hans Aspergers reaserch, he found that his Aspergers patients family members also showed traits, more specifically Fathers.

so what is/was your dad like?

My dad has traits, but more than anything he's bipolar. He considers himself to have Aspergers too but from what I've seen it's unlikely.

None of my family members have autistic traits or have been diagnosed with autism/AS. I'm the only person in my family, as far as we know, who has AS.

Yes, my father is introverted, has no close friends (except Mom of course) and is obsessed with computers and photography to the point it annoys me to no end. He insists he understands me much better than I think. Still, there is no way he meets the criteria for an ASD or Aspergers or even comes close. Same with his late brother: stereotypical geek in every way but there is no way he even comes close to Aspergers like I do. I'm not aware of ANY family members that even come close even though I'm about as textbook as it gets.

Obsessive-compulsive traits, yes. And a few others. But he isn't on the spectrum.

My dad has some traits but not the full disorder. He does go on and on about his subjects of interest and gets obsessed with certain topics. He's also very rigid about some things.

My dad's a typical NT. He's afraid to think deeply. He's very amiable and sociable. He doesn't like to impose his views on others. He's hard to get close to.

I don't know my dad, but I think my grandpa has some traits.

He is very social, but he only likes to talk about two things- music, and buses. If you don't talk about that, he will somehow change the subject to it. He also rubs his fingers and hands together constantly. Especially when driving.

Not enough to be diagnosed, but some traits.

My mom decided my dad has it because of his social skills getting worse. Even my husband says the same too and claims how he spends too much time working and how we are lot alike. He lacks stimming, sensory issues, and other important components of AS. He only has ADHD and poor social skills and can be clumsy.

I am getting sick of people thinking AS over poor social skills. There is more to it than that. I have also noticed it in the media too.

No, my dad is the complete opposite. A total extrovert life of the party type but there are a couple people on my dad's side of the family with obvious traits.

My dad is an aspie for sure, he's very clever but hard to have a conversation with because he just tells you facts about random stuff. Has few friends, won't be driven in a car, won't fly... way worse than me in some respects but did well in his chosen career.

Mother is an abusive mess. Most of the time she doesn't know she is doing it. My father is an introverted codependant (a magnet for a narcissist). He is in a world of his own. No real friends. A very simple man. Doesn't have problems like I do. He has the ability to forget, or put things down, and things don't really bother him very much. I cannot remember ever seeing him stim. He is more like me. I have a brother that is about the definition of a nice a-hole. He married someone like my mom. He is like a combination of the two. I don't know how dad has put up with her for 54 years. I would have left her inside of two weeks. She really screwed my head up. Compared to the rest of my family, I am in deep left field. They all think so, however they do not know what my deal is. If I explain to them what I think, no one believes me. They would rather think that I am something much worse?
