I got drunk for the second time in my life last night and I realized my symptoms begin to come out when I am. I stimmed more, kept zoning out or focusing on weird things, couldn't talk, and stopped feeling my body. It felt exactly like my shutdowns except that this didn't feel completely awful like shutdowns do. So, I'm wondering what do you experience when drunk?

I seem to go in the opposite direction.

People have told me that when I'm drunk I become more outgoing, charming, fun and funny.

Problem is that when I get drunk I get 'black-outs' - that is, afterwards I have no recollection at all for the duration of time of when I was drunk.

The black-outs scare me so much I haven't been drunk in years for fear of doing or saying something really bad.

Although I'm a skinny guy, I'm no lightweight. I'm really upfront with everyone when I drink, but I'm told my personality seems uncharacteristically NT.

I am not sure if I was ever drunk (I don't like alcohol) but I remember one time when I drank so much vodka I should be drunk considering the fact my body is not used to alcohol. But it is possible I got a "strong head" and I wasn't drunk at all.
I was watching my body and senses for any unusual behaviours but the only things I realized was that my skin was pink, I become a little more flexible (and clumsy), I was laughing a lot and I had no problem with touch (dancing) and loud music didn't bother me that much but my mind was just as clear as it always is. Mentally I was feeling 100% normal and I was thinking logically. My laughing was caused by realizing my own body clumsiness and the fact that I am able to move it without feeling the usual touch sensitivities.

Alcohol has been a blessing and a curse to me. When I was drinking with people I had friends. I wasn't the "get angry" type; more like the "get relaxed" type. There were some bad experiences with it, though. Anyway, I'm in recovery now so I'm glad to be off the stuff. Got me in trouble anyway.

All this is standard issue for being drunk, regardless of any other issues, including Aspieness. =)

It's all part of the fun right? Right??

Add another vote to 'When I'm drunk, I'm more outgoing, friendly and more NT like'.

Alcohol shuts off portions of your brain. Maybe the heavily AS affected parts get shut off in my case.

I'm more of a smoker, but I used to drink as often as possible when I was in the Navy. I only drink 2-3 times per year now. I don't drink unless I'm going for all out all night, like in Las Vegas, or somewhere walking place to place with 3-4 other people. I get super wild and loud and friendly. I was high-five ing strangers on escalators and meeting people all over Las Vegas when I went. That is NOT me normally!
Ketel one/Cointreau cosmopolitans is is the only way to go.

I USED to become more fun and outgoing when I was drunk, but now not so much. Now it just makes me feel dizzy and sh***y.

Interesting account of being drunk for the second time.

It may have been caused by the alcohol, but IMO there's a good chance whatever you drank was high enough in salicylate acids to send your brain for a loop. Read the thread in my sig for details.

I'm another one who tends to be seen as more "sociable"/outgoing with a few drinks inside me. It does make me feel less inhibited, and I seem to stop obsessing about "what to say next" when the other person is talking. Carried to extremes though I can end up getting a bit carried away by my own success, and then I might start to stand out from the NTs by lacking the sense of when I'm being too exuberant. Although I dont have an alcohol problem, there have certainly been times in the past when I've got into a pattern of heavy drinking - definitely something to avoid.

I also become more happy and outgoing when I'm drunk. I kinda wish I could be like that when I'm not drunk. :(

Two drinks and I begin to relax. Three drinks and I fall asleep.

I can't drink, it makes me go very weird, I say inappropriate things and humiliate myself. I know that is what alcohol does to most people, but it is a different level for me. I think it is because all my compensatory learned understanding of the rules of social interation melt away just leaving this weird child with no intuition.

Another person who becomes outgoing when drunk. Only problem is that my problems finding words goes away, but I don't gain any filters, and all the wrong things come out. Tons of regrets of saying things that shouldn't have been said the next morning.

I find the lack of filter combined with the black outs is a recipe for extreme anxiety, I just keep worrying about what I might of said.

I hate it when people say 'people are their real selves when they get drunk because they lose their inhibitions' I always think 'but I am my inhibitions'
