If you are proud, what is the reason for it?
If you aren't, why not?

Because even though I am very smart, I am socially handicapped, and even with that I have survived half a century. I am okay I guess. And even if I am a dork' I am a smart one.

Because it makes me different from everybody else, more so than most, and you don't get the opportunity for that very often!

i wouldnt say that im proud - but i think its cool. from all the exchanges with nts about describing their viewpoint, i absolutely prefer mine.

as for reasons: i dont bring a knife to a gunfight, i.e. emotions to a rational discussion. ;)

Because why would anybody be proud of something that they have absolutely no control over? I would rather be proud of my acheivements than my genetic makeup. To me it is like asking a good looking woman 'Are you proud to be pretty?'

It makes me sick when I hear people say 'I am proud to be black/white' ....I am just left thinking 'Why are you so proud? You had no control over it; you are proud just because you happened to be born to a particular set of parents?'

I don't feel compelled to follow the latest trends, or pretend to be exactly like everybody else.

I don't feel proud of it exactly because I have nothing to be proud of in that it's not some kind of achievement or anything. But at the same time, I don't feel ashamed of it and I no longer wish I wasn't.

Exactly, not being proud doesn't mean you have to be ashamed.

I am not proud to be an English male but I am not ashamed either.

Yes, I'm proud because now I finally understand and appreciate myself.

I'm just glad to know I'm different for a good reason.

And on that note, being different has always made me happy. Not conforming to social trends or swimming with the rest of the shoal has been far more preferablt to me than following the latest fashions or music or whatever.

I'd rather be unique and interesting than one of the herd :)

Because it's what I am, if i'm going to be proud of anything I may as well be proud for being myself. One of my housemates has the most hideously active social life imaginable, she's content with that, just as i'm content with barely having one at all. :)

Anyway, it gives me qualities which intrigue people - a sense of mystery if you like, which I like to think is mildly attrictive to the opposite sex, even if they appear to have a certain reluctance to react to it accordingly.

Besides, who wants to be a Sheep, following the crowd? Not me, ta very much.

So there I am, Aspie and jolly content with it I am too. 8)
