I have seen several people mention that they sleep better at night (or at least fall asleep more easily) when they have some weight on them. Can anyone describe/explain what they use (i.e., heavy blanket?) to help them sleep?
thanks.

A cat.

Im serious Ive trained my cat to sleep on top of me :P

Either that or I wedge myself between the mattress and frame (its a waterbed).

Otherwise you can buy or make a weighted blanket. Just getting one that is really heavy on its own would technically work but Id think it would be too hot under something like that.

I find, that the issue with heavy blankets is you can get very very hot - especially if you are a hot person (high metabolism etc.)

I had never heard of this before, until I came here. But I do know from my own experience, that I have to have at least a blanket on me, preferably a heavy comforter, for me to sleep well. I absolutely cannot get to sleep without any covering, or with just a sheet.

I can't afford a weighted blanket, so my mom is going to make me one. In the meantime I am experimenting using a cotton braided rug that weighs 10 lbs. I like it.

I used layers of blankets and heavy pajamas when I was younger. I don't need it anymore but I probably slept like that until college. But head to toe in warm stuff and 5 blankets, even in the summer.
This was 20-30 years ago and I had no idea about sensory integration disorder. I just knew that I needed to feel weight and warmth to relax.

I have a sixteen pound weighted blanket that has sand in it I use it all year even in the summer. I also sleep with several feather pillows on top of me including one for my head.

I have to have a comforter on me, even in the middle of summer in FL. My cats also have a tendency to sleep on me.

And of course, you can't do this with a kid, but I have a tendency to snuggle under my husband!

I'm trying to remember what they did when I was a kid because I was like this back then as well. It seems like for a long time they put pillows around me and lots of blankets on me. I always wanted to be rolled up like a mummy as well. I still like that. Almost like swaddling.

I just have a heavier duvet. My son needs several blankets ontop of him too. I never understood why I slept better with a blanket, and reluctantly gave it up in the summer when it gets WAY too hot. I guess now I know :)

I never bothered with blankets--always used comforters. My family always marveled at how I could sleep with a heavy down comforter, several pillows, and an open window on hot California nights.

I'm another one who needs at least one or two blankets on me to feel grounded enough to sleep.

Now I know why my favorite part of going to the dentist's office was to get that lead vest for the dental x-rays.

I always have a lot of sheets and blankets, plus several pillows. (Mom gets annoyed when I'm home, because I steal all of the blankets from the linen closet.)

Also, when I'm really upset, I tend to need a pillow on my head in order to calm down and go to sleep.

I use a big comforter even on hot nights, and I wrap it very tightly around myself.

I require something heavy on top of me when I'm sleeping to relax. But, more importantly, when I have a meltdown I cannot calm down sufficiently until I feel a blanket or something wrapped tight around me. I like to sometimes crawl into things (ie: boxes, small spaces) to feel safe. I suspect this phenomena is like a baby swaddling. Anyway, please see the above website for information &/or ordering - appropriate sizes, weights, etc. This really does help.

I've allways had sleeping problems. This past CHristmas, I recieved a Cuddle wrap 3 in 1 thing. Blanket, throw and wrap. It's nice and thick and I have been useing that as a second comforter on my bed allong with a heavy sleeping bag and I have had more nights of decent sleep in the last few month than before so I think it's a possiblity that the extra weight helps. I think it is molre comfy.

Never thought about weight, but I always have at least a sheet over me when I sleep.
