Do you pay (much) attention to what people are wearing?

There are these many people around me who immediately comment on when I'm wearing new shoes, a new shirt or new handbag and so on.

I find this fascinating because I obviously care far too little to even know spontanously what kind of shoes my best friends wear every day.
It also, though the comments are friendly, makes me feel a bit uncomfortable because I'm afraid the downside of it is they are constantly judging what you look like, that is, today they tell you that you have nice new shoes but the next time you have some tiny dirty spot on your shoes you can be certain they won't miss it either, and probably comment about it to everyone around.

It says people with autism have a good eye for the details, so I wonder if you also always see at once when someone has a new clothing item? And if so, how much do you care?

I never pay attention to what people are wearing and don't understand why other people care. I've gotten the same comments about my shoes and found it very odd that people looked at them. Aren't you supposed to look at people's faces? Same goes with any other article of clothing. Unless it stands out in some way, I'm not going to notice what you're wearing.

Yes, definitely. I'm QVC Queen.
I'll also look at purses, hair styles, jewelry.

I was at the Olive Garden with my semi-new friend and a waitress (not ours) came up to me and said how much she loved my hair and just went on and on. It was totally unexpected (me and my friend were in a pretty serious conversation) and everyone started staring. I almost died! Me and Ma are going there tomorrow - hope the same thing doesn't happen. I love the Olive Garden.

I think this is more a personality-type or micro-cultural thing than an aspie/NT thing.

I have spent most of my life around academic folks, who generally dress decently but not fashionably. Comments about clothes in that community tend to be very uncommon.

Once summer I had a brief job in a health food store, a very different community. I think I got more comments about my clothing in one month there than I had in the previous ten years. It made me rather uncomfortable as well.

I usually don't notice. But if it's something really cool it will get my attention.

What is funny though is I play Lord of the Rings Online, and am always checking out what other players characters are wearing. I'm a real nut about it in the cartoon world. Right now there's a pirate hat with eyepatch, I want bad for my hobbit character.

No, I usually don't notice at all. The only exception is if they wear something I like. If you asked me what someone I just talked to was wearing, I would have no idea. Clothes, I guess?

I've heard NT females talk about how someone doesn't dress to make the most of their looks, or how someone wears the same things often, and I cannot fathom even noticing such things, far less find it something worthy of talking about.

I'll often only notice if the person changes something that I was using to help me recognise and remember them, as I either won't look at, or won't remember, their faces.
So if I got used to recognising someone by the jacket they often wore and then they suddenly stopped wearing that jacket, I'd definitely notice and probably comment, after I'd identified them in some other way.
People have found this odd - in the above circumstance for example I'd comment "where's your jacket?! I didn't recognise you without your jacket!" Either because they weren't aware they wore that jacket enough to be identified by it or it's weird to identify someone by a standout piece of clothing rather than their face.
I do this with jewellery and hairstyles too. Walk right by someone without recognition because they changed their hair.
But otherwise nope, don't pay much notice or assign any kind of judgement about the fashion or whether it accentuates their image of whatever. Doesn't occur to me. Unless it's for recognition it's moot.

Not generally most of the time; only when someone has put together an outfit that's striking enough in some way, like it's all color coordinated with care, then it might stand out to me. Or if someone's wearing something I would particularly like to have myself, like a pretty top. Then I wonder where they got it and if I could get one. The rest of the time I don't really look at people's clothes, heck I try not to even look at people at all, period.

I'll notice anything a girl wears on her feet since i sort of have a fetish 8).

Men, not so much. They could walk around dressed as garbage cans and i wouldn't notice.

I don't usually care too much about what people are wearing; it's just not a passion with me. I don't know who the "latest" designers are.

Sometimes, women who wear sundresses can drive me wild. Sometimes, women who wear jeans and tee-shirts drive me wild, too.

I only pay attention to what guys wear because I want to look decent in the street. As a result, I tend to like the polo shirt/button down shirt--Dockers type of clothes. I don't take too many fashion risks.

I don't usually notice unless they are wearing something related to something I like (such as a shirt for a show or movie I like or one with a funny slogan)

I enjoy looking at graphic tees wit nice designs on them but outside of that i could care less what others wear. Fashion has no real impact on me and the clothes people wear tell me nothing.

I notice what people are wearing...and I have had people I know compliment me on things like that, but I doubt they would care if the next time they saw me there was a dirty spot on my new shoes or something let alone be telling people about it or comment about it. Also its not 100% always but sometimes you can actually tell some about a person based on what they wear and/or how they wear it. Can be useful when observing people.
