Only when I see something I really want, and something that I thought I'd never see. Like a rare book at the Lifeline Bookfest. Not over chips, though...

I don't thnk I ever said it in my entire life until about 2 years ago. Oddly, I AM acting a bit more AS or autistic now. I don't know if it is because I have been trying to get back my earlier mental plasticity, trying to remember various events of my life, have been nostalgic, feel happier, or am simply imagining things because I am now LOOKING for it. I am even trying to not dumb down my speech so much, although I have been doing it for SOOOOO long... Still, even when I was younger, and acted more AS than I do now, I never used such terms.

I do not. About my speech: I mostly nonverbal, as most you might already know. I have periods of muteness in my life. Anyway, when I did speak when I was little (I did not until I was ~ 3 or 4), my vocabulary was like an adults and vey pendantic, formal. I never have used popular terms, slang, profanity, etc. I am kind of strange in this way (well, other ways too). My grammar is perfect (I am only a mediocre speller and rely upon spell check). I write well; formulaic and succinct. Apparently, in some autistic children, pendantic, or formal speech, is a notable marker. That is, when I was not mute. I rarely use words like "god" or other expressions that are typical. Also, I have a quiet voice but I am told I have a breathy, sexy voice with a lot of range. (I have no idea). Sometimes I am told I sound like a recorded message when I speak, especially on the phone. I am an Alaskan (by birth) and we have speak slowly and really enunciate words (sp?), unlike those in America! Plus, my father, who died when I was 12, had an English accent and I still retain that a little - like my speech never evolved through my life (autistic trait?). So, I am told I have a continental accent.

I'm more of a "Holy s**t" person myself, although I sometimes say "Oh God", "egad", or "cor bli' me". But I can never bring myself to say "OMG", because I have an impulse to pronounce it "omguh", and it doesn't roll off the tongue. :?

It's like walking in a fog, right around you seems less dense but there is a horizon that looks real dense out there on every side. That is like it is when I try to observe my autism in the past. . ooh, looks real dense, but just now it doesn't look too bad.

I have a sneaking suspicion I am not actually able to observe all my autism and I what I CAN observe is so obvious that even I can see it.

I haven't noticed, honestly.
Perhaps, because we need to think about social reactions, we say things to keep the other person's attention, as a filler, I suppose.
I say 'more or less' at the end of most of my sentences.
