Hello, I have written before in these forums but have been busy as of late so I haven't been able to come back. Lately I've been trying to do some of my own research about this topic but I am having trouble. First off, I suspect that I may be on the spectrum, as many of my behaviors relate to it and I also asked my siblings about my early childhood. They told me I did a few key things that fit the criteria for ASD. Anyways. Back to the topic.

I noticed that when I try to sing aloud to songs, I have a really bad issues with stumbling over the words and even making up words as I go. I know the exact lyrics of the song, but for some reason when I try to sing them along with the song they come out wrong, broken, or as gibberish. I do not have this issue when speaking normally. When I am not singing along to a song but I am, say, mouthing the words but not actually speaking, I do not have this issue at all.

Does anyone know what this may possibly be or if it is related to autism? I do have internal echolalia and had a good case of echolalia when I was little. I also have a slight tendency to switch words out and replace it with the opposite, i.e. saying I'm hot when I'm cold, tomorrow when I mean yesterday, etc.

I would bet that Weird Al Yankovic had the same difficulty.

He would make up his own lyrics to songs...and he made millions doing it!

Perhaps, who knows, you could impress people with what you "make up" as you sing the songs.

There have been a few hits with people who have butchered lyrics.

What I'm saying----is that making up your own lyrics when you forget the "proper" lyrics could actually be a decent creative endeavor.

I'm sort of thinking that you're not hanging out with the right people.

A certain sort of person would be charmed by somebody who can creatively make up lyrics.

I know what I want to say in my head but when I speak I often use the wrong word, a nonsensical word or the opposite to what I mean.
This can be so confusing for people and they get really frustrated with me at times. I can also get very frustrated if I’m trying to get something across verbally.
But other times it’s utterly hilarious.
They say I have aphasia due to brain injury but I don’t think I do because i’ve read lots of articles about it and I have much better comprehension and speech production than the articles indicate I should have.
So I don’t know.
I’ve always had trouble with speech it’s just much worse now.

I have a similar problem. For example I sometimes say Hot when I mean Cold or Microwave when I mean Stove. I do this with lots of other words thou & I've always had this issue. It's like I get the terms mixed up in my head. I blame it on my dyslexia but I went to a skewl for dyslexia & it seemed like I was the only one with that issue. I tried researching a little to figure out what this is & the closest thing I found that might fit is Verbal Paraphasia.

That sounds more like what I have too, although it’s still associated with aphasia.
People with aphasia can’t string words together or comprehend written text and I’m capable of doing so.
When I visited the neurologist, I had great difficulty speaking, but that was due to being nervous, new surroundings, etc, and I often go mute in those situations.
So they’ve put this label on me and I think they’re wrong.

Sometimes I have trouble stringing words together, too. It seems to happen when I’m nervous. My words will get all jumbled up. It helps if I slow down and think through what I’m going to say.

I am a huge Weird Al fan. I love making my own parodies of songs.

I mix up words when I speak and when I write. I will say mustard when I mean ketchup. I sometimes skip words or letters when I write. I have proof read everything I write whether it's for school, my own private writing, or posts on wrong planet. My dad is the same way.

I hope I can see some of those song lyrics, LadyElaine.

I always think of Lady Elaine Fairchilde when I see your name. She was from Mister Rogers.

Words are not my friends either.

And I'm not just talking about expressive language and verbal speech.

I don't need to be stressed out receive and give away screwed words and wording.
Only thing that stress-free state would give me is more patience or a more thoughtful way of clarifying what things meant.

Language itself feels rather constricting to me. But it's the only option to convey it to someone else. Even worse that I don't know how else I convey things without getting confusing.

Proofreading didn't helped much either. It only helped with spelling. Not much with the rest.
Every time I reread my own words within a different time, I get different conclusions unless I recall why I wrote it that way.
Some conclusion says it made sense, some don't.

I do this all the time. I'm not sure of the exact label, but for me I would guess it comes from thinking primarily in pictures. Words are too limiting and slow to express what's in my mind, they often come out wrong or not at all.
