It's because 99% of people these days are extremely stupid. And I just can't tolerate stupidity.

There are just so many idiots across all walks of life and all ends of the political spectrum, ranging from woke SJWs to white supremicists, and from Christians and Muslims who take their religions too seriously to New Age neo-pagan nonsense.

At work today, my coworker was reading a series of texts from her ex claiming that Covid-19 is fake and is just a conspiracy from the government to force people to take vaccines. And as I was driving home, I drove past people with placards saying "forced vaccines are unconstitutional."

I remember one day when I was sitting in a waiting room to see my therapist, and the people sitting next to me started talking about how Donald Trump was appointed by God and that if Hillary Clinton had won the election the US would be a communist country by now. I remember feeling genuinely shocked that actual human beings can be this f*cking stupid!

Last year I was riding with my boss when he went on a tirade about how we should just nuke Iran and Iraq and kill all the Muslims and give their land to the Liberals or the Indians to get them out of our hair.

Here are some examples of the idiotic beliefs many people continue to hold despite all evidence to the contrary:

The Earth is flat.
The Earth is only 6,000 years old.
God specifically created humans of European descent to be superior to the rest of the human species.
Vaccines cause autism.
Evolution is fake.
Essential oils can prevent/cure cancer.
God deliberately created boys with foreskins just so he can tell us to cut them off.
Climate change is fake.
Biological sexes don't exist.
Islam supports gender equality.
Criticism of Islam is racist.
Only white people can be racist.
The Holocaust is fake.
The United States was founded on Judeo-Christian values.
Donald Trump was appointed to be the President of the United States by God himself.
Donald Trump is the true winner of the 2020 presidential election.
The moon landing never happened.
Christians are a prosecuted minority in the United States.
Immigrants are stealing jobs from "real" Americans.
There's a war on Christmas.
America used to be "great", but isn't anymore because of immigrants/Muslims/Atheists/LGBTQ/feminists/liberals/etc.
Kids are being forced to pray Islamic prayers in schools.
The solution to mass shootings is more guns.

Everywhere I go, whether it be online or in person, I find myself surrounded by F*cking morons.

I remember a day a few years ago, when I was substitute teaching in a middle school classroom. The lesson was about the planet Earth. And I overheard a student saying that she doesn't know whether or not to believe if the Earth is round or flat. Of course I don't blame a child for this, but rather I blame all idiotic adults who spread this hogwash.

Is it really any surprise that its so hard for me to find anybody I actually want to be around when so much of the human race is this idiotic?!

Most people don't believe in ALL of those things that you mention.

I am fortunate in knowing very few people who believe in ANY of the above.

I wasn't implying that any one person believed all of those. In fact I find that highly unlikely.

My point is that most people believe one or more of those things.

You're meeting up with the wrong people, then.

You might be better off in a university town.

I do meet these kinds of people---but there are enough people who are NOT like that, so that I can have faith in "humanity."

Your attitude of people who disagree with me are inherently stupid is going to cause you problems in life. I've been there, it's a constant source of frustration; but at least you can actually change it.

I don't have a problem with people who disagree with me if their opinions are intelligent and well-informed. There is a huge difference between having a difference of opinion and just being a complete idiot.

Even people who hold a stupid opinion in one field might still be intelligent and reasonable overall. Using that one stupid opinion to inform your entire opinion of their intellectual abilities is unfair and ultimately does yourself a disservice.

I'd have to agree with Funeral.

I don't believe in God at all so anything to do with God is just useless to me.

Or 2020 years old. (Not that I think that BTW).

Some people might believe in some of these things because they've had fear incited into them. I actually sort of believe some vaccines cause autism because of a scare I had when I was 9. To this day I'm terrified of vaccines because of it, hence why I'm wary of having the COVID vaccine.

Ah now that's just political correctness gone mad.

Everything's racist these days. Sometimes political correctness does more harm than good.

Oh, and I don't give a crap about this stupid Trump guy. Americans seem overly obsessed with him.

Obviously the OP didnt mean that ANY one believes ALL of those things. He is using examples from the whole political spectrum. So some of those beliefs are opposed and contradictory and wouldnt come out of the same one person's mouth.

He is saying that you see more idiocy than you used to see, and you see it in every group: from SJWs to White Trump supporters. The example he uses come from the whole gamut of society.

At first glance it looks he is just being hot headed towards anyone who disagrees with him.

But he kinda has a point. It does seem like everyone is more into their own belief bubble than years ago. Thanks to ....whatever. Social media.

I also agree with funeral as well. You need to open your mind a little.

I have a working hypothesis that every genius has at least one crackpot idea. One astronomer of quite shattering eminence thought that our nostrils pointed down to keep out space dust, as if he'd never seen other noses, or dust floating in the air on a sunbeam. Newton spent a lot of his time trying to combine science and theology. Hawking thinks that technology is fatal to planets, but that we can terraform a series of them and get about 500 years from each. Musk wants to live on Mars, when we can't even make a living atop Everest, with much better conditions.

When a new theory like continental drift triumphs, universities still teach the older courses on land bridges, etc, until those professors retire. Currently, Naval Architects are still doing their propeller calculations using the Betz Limit, when it is obvious that it only matters for harbour tugboats and the original pulling contests with paddle wheels. Everyone doing the same work on aircraft knows to use the Froude equations for moving propellers, which would give the ships 20% better mileage.

Human brains are very good at seeing patterns, but they will fill in the blanks if necessary, and can easily get stuck if the initial guess was wrong. We are also all running near the limits of our abilities, which means that mistakes are inevitable. Being good in one field can cause much false confidence when trying to apply the same skills in another. Then too, there's the whole Dunning-Kruger syndrome, which makes fools appear wise to themselves.

However, I do have a good friend. We don't agree on everything, but we don't worry about that. We talk about what we do agree on, and have some good laughs. When it is easy for us to help each other, we do it automatically, and when one gets in a jam, the other has always been willing to help. Other friendships are based on common interests, where we want to work together to some extent. It is great to "talk shop" even if we have to be careful to stay off politics.

I think people have not changed much since we first evolved. We have refined our language and tools, and learned how to manipulate our environment but I don’t believe our fundamental nature has changed at all. We are selfish, self serving, survivalists - we do whatever it takes to improve the chances that our offspring or our tribe will survive. From the wealthiest to the least, from world powers to third world countries, the vast vast majority routinely lie, cheat, steal, and exploit.
This is us, it’s no wonder you view us with disdain.
The trick must be that most people just accept this as the way the world works and happily befriend everyone they can with much lower standards than you maintain in order to further improve their own existence and chances of survival.
It’s a game at which I fail miserably.

I agree that evolution has not made us much different than stone-age people. There are still some around for comparison. We also exhibit a wide range of behaviours that are clearly instinctive in other apes. However, I think that humans have a wide range of altruism and cooperation. The Neanderthals had bigger bodies and brains, but they never learned to trade for better flint, while we were establishing trade and alliances around them. Cooperation for the general good creates wealth, which in turn increases the rewards for selfishness. We probably need the selfish people as insurance against having everyone die in a disaster.
My best friends are similarly low on the selfishness scale, but others bond for being high on it - brothers in arms.

I see Funeral's point. And I don't automatically exclude people from my life for having one or two crackpot beliefs.

And as a human being myself, I am aware that my own view of reality is not free of bias and cannot be perfectly accurate. And I am as susceptible to the Dunning-Kruger Effect as everyone else. But I at least try to be informed and do my research before forming an opinion on a matter.

Its just so darn frustrating!
