I don't think that's why we have trouble seeing others' points of view. We have trouble understanding their positions because they're so often based on unspoken assumptions or rely upon inferrences about others' behaviour, and we don't do those things.
I think I've very open-minded, but only to reasoned positions. Irrational positions aren't comprehensible (to anyone), so I pay them no heed.
