On the 29th of July this year, Dr Mike Brown of the California Institute of Technology officially anounced that there is a 10th planet, located at the far reaches of the solar system in an area called the Kuiper belt. It is at least one-and-a-half times the size of pluto, and is 97 times farther from the Sun than from earth (97 AU). For the full story, go see the NASA feature page.

What would you want the name to be called? Are you a traditionalist and want to call it after a Greek demigod, or do you want to call it after something else?

Maybe name it after a Greek, Roman, or Norse mythological figure?

Pluto must be lonely being so far out there. Maybe it'd like to have a partner named Goofy.

Wasn't there something about Pluto technically not being a planet???

If so, they should give it Pluto's name and name Pluto something else! hehe

I thought Pluto technically wasn't a planet but scientists decided to designate it as such for the sake of tradition. If they give it a name, I'd like to see them forego using Greek mythology and utilize a name from another culture.

How about, say......"Kevin"?

Speaking of idiotic names... Did you know that some London entomologists recently named a Dung Beetle after GW Bush?

(Seriously, I'm not making this up. And Bush was flattered.)
