I can guarantee some do, and I can guarantee what the most common ones are:

Aspartame, Splenda, and other artifical sweeteners
Benzene (from Benzoates combined with Vitamin C/Ascorbic Acid)
HFCS
MSG
Sulphites
Various artifical preservatives
Artificial colours

And then the most common allergens, ie Milk/Dairy/Lactose/Casein, Gluten, Wheat (not gluten), Nuts/Peanuts, Eggs...

If I eat packaged, non-organic foods I instantly feel my energy drop and my mind fog over. I was in one shop today that hardly had any natural foods in it and I felt ill, I had to get out of there - there was literally not one item in an entire small supermarket I could bring myself to eat, I'd rather go hungry than put that in my body knowing the effect it would have.

None that I am aware of. Stress and sleepiness is the main thing that makes my autistic behavior more pronounced, food almost never does that with me.

I'm with Odin on this one, food has no effect on my aspergers or who I am, as to me our symptoms are in fact our selves.

But may effect me in other ways, and agree that bad diet can effect my stress and sleepiness...

But then everyone can beneifit from a good diet on or off the spectrum...

Allergies seem to make my son "more autistic", or at least decrease his communication skills and make him act "wirey".
He doesn't seem to have any food allergies.

i just KNEW you were going to post this here..

heres a translation of my reply from http://www.disabledplanet.net

Hmm, cant really answer here since I don't eat much. But, back when I had normal feeding abilities there were no foods that caused a notable worsening in my symptoms.

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.

food does not make me more autistic and why do they use the word autistic, it seems like a negative word when based on research and the research i'v done so far it has to do with genetics/stress. Autism is gonna keep on rising and it's not gonna stop till the wars end and we our country reduces the financial hardship on our country. and parents stop divorcing and paying attention and loving there child more, and dont drink and takes drugs while pregnant., and bullying stops and schools have more fun, music, art, computers in schools. Google books on autism and stress/genetics google books on autism and stress/genetics as we know most of us who have aspergers has anxiety disorders, ptsd, add, adhd etc.

Wheat and milk used to make me more autistic until I took lots of probiotics. The probiotics can cure an overgrowth of yeast or bacteria in the GI tract that inhibits digestive enzymes (one cause of IBS that can be cured). I think the yeast and bacteria inhibit the DPP-IV enzyme for wheat and milk also which is why I think probiotics cured that problem.

Also, I think aspartame gives me headaches and makes me worse.

That seems to be the standard for written language in English youngsters... go to bebo.com and look through profiles. Or go to www.theargus.co.uk (my local paper) and look through the comments on any youth-related article.

Pfft, and we all complain about your 'American English'... ;)

(Drives me absolutely mad. I'm a stickler for proper grammar and correct apostrophes!)

No, beside the theroy that food causes autism has been disproven and the therois that foods affect the symptoms of autism are largely unvalidated mostly from lack of study.

As an aside, LeKiwi, you may not like American English, but please don't assume that howzat used standard American English, because he didn't. American English, in reality, is the various dialects of spoken, and on occasion written, English used in the United States. Even outside of America, the English language has numerous different dialects, as most languages do. That being said the spelling and grammer in howzat's comment would not pass the standards of most American elementary English classes past the first grade level. Don't over-stereotype it.
