Do you like math? I get the impression that people's opinions here tend to be on the extremes.

I don't like math. Never was good at it.

(People have even called me dumb because I suck at it so much. )

I put love math, I measure and quantify things and do calculations and conversions for kicks! Silver Proteus, people who call you dumb must not have gotten you going on Mummies! :farao:

I like math but I was maybe a little above average with it. Which compared to a lot of others, about average really. I just answered both topics.

I learned a lot about them, maybe I should learn a bit more about how the ancient Egyptians were when it came to maths, to counter things a bit. :P

I enjoy learning about mathematical concepts (especially geometrical concepts) but I hate actually solving equations and other mundane arithmetic. I actually have a strong degree of aversion towards doing arithmetic because in 3rd grade we (my class) got assigned a ridiculous number of problems (as many as 200 problems, 200!) as homework and that left me quite literally traumatized.

Algebra is fun. Geometry can go die in a fire, though.

I used to dislike it, but I've recently taken an interet in learning more about it so I've been doing a lot of reading. It's not bad. :)

I like math, I'm really good at mental math, but I hate algebra. :x

The extremes just talk louder. That doesn't mean most people feel that way.

I like math, but only as far as it's useful. I have less interest in "pure" mathematics. I don't think calculation is fun, but the logic is interesting.

I like it immensely. But that's only because I've taken the extra time to appreciate it by becoming familiar with it's global and microscopic connections.

I tend not to like it, but don't hate it.

I'm good at math, mainly at mental math. I passed all primary and secondary school math subjects with excellent grades, but I began having learning problems on high school.

Maybe my problem is that I need extra time to understand new math concepts beyond algebra, that's the reason why I failed two times Math 5 last year (and I haven't passed that subject yet). I can be slow, but when I learn something I really learn it and never forget it.

YEAH! I like mental math also.
Our daughter used to play a game with us (her mom and I) when we would drive places in the car....

Daughter: "What's 2 plus 2?"
Us: 4
Her: "What's 4 plus 4?"
Us: 8
on and on until her mom would drop out. I kept on going. I loved doing that... don't know why, but I really enjoy figuring out things in my mind.

Later on... she changed to mulitplication!

I don't consider myself a math genius... in fact... I had to repeat the same algebra class in college three times before I even finished it and got a C.
Mostly it's that ADD/HD of mine and trying to maintain throughout a whole semester.
Also, I have trouble just accepting formulas using rote memorization.

What I mean is... it's hard for me to 'just remember to use that formula with those type of equations!"
My former wife gave up on helping me with my homework out of shear frustration when I would always ask...
"Well, how does this formula work... why does it work with this type of equation?"
Until I could picture the formula working out the equation... I'd just be stumped.
I could see the equation.. I knew there was a formula to work it with... but I just could not remember it unless I understood it.

If that makes any sense!

I would LOVE to teach math.
I love to help kids figure out stuff.
I love to be given a problem and try to figure out how many ways I can solve it.

Being transgendered though... I don't think too many parents would approve of me being around kids.
But that has nothing to do with this thread.

Math is GREAT... I really feel sorry for those of you who do not like it... but there are other things you can do in life... I'm pretty sure anyway :P
