I wonder if any of you watched that movie? Did you feel like you just "don't get it"? I attempted to watch for the first 20 minutes then gave up. It seems like they talk in gibberish. Apparently it's supposed to have some indirect subtle meaning.

You really should watch a movie more than 1/9 the way through before passing judgement on it.

Besides, The Godfather is textured, but not exactly subtle.

I had no problems understanding The Godfather 1, 2 or 3.

Tried watching it once. Failed utterly to catch my attention.

Godfather was one of those movies that I deliberately didn't watch until I felt I was old enough.

I finally watched it aged about 36.

It was completely different to what I expected - (I expected a long boring anticol advert - ie: people talking huskily).

There was an amazing amount of story behind it and some very unexpected (for me, at least) turns toward the halfway mark and the end.

My recommendation: Unless you've got an unusually perceptive mind, don't touch the film until your thirties and even then, consider having subtitles on so that you don't miss anything.

I watched like the first 30 minutes of it once and then "had to go do something"

One of these days I might have to sit down with it without distractions.

I feel weird, I first saw The Godfather when it came out, I was only 11, I loved it then and now, Maybe Spiridon you should wait a few years then try to watch it again, its really one of the great movies of the last 50 years, but you really have to be in the mood for a long complex film

I always see Cartman striking Kyle with a wiffle bat at Stark's Pond in the hopes of killing him when someone mentions "Godfather".

I liked the first and second Godfather movies, I didn't like the third one.

First saw them when I was 10 in 1988. Didn't have a problem understanding it.

You should listen to this clip fro Family Guy. This is what I thought of imediatly when I read this, and it made me laugh.

I used to watch a lot of movies on TV as a kid, and Godfather was one of my favourites.

I watched The Godfather for the first time when I was 13 or so. I enjoyed certain parts of it, but the overall point of the movie - the character development, the themes of family and responsibility, crime vs. respect and if they can coexist, etc. - were totally lost on me. It was long, and I probably didn't pay enough attention. I saw it again as a freshman in college. I "got it," loved it, and have watched it several times since. I own the trilogy on DVD and have also enjoyed the second film several times, but I've never even bothered to watch the third because, even though I know it is a decent movie, I would rather think of the Godfather as parts one and two only.

P.S. I think the first is a little better than the second, even though the second is amazing. Why? Marlon Brando. And it's a little shorter and more entertaining, quotable, etc.

Read the book first, its awesome.
The film is really good, Marlon Brando is wonderful, Al Pacino is amazing.

I don't think though that the Godfather is the ultimate film that people make it out to be.
It seems that if an alien came to earth and could only watch one film a lot of people would put them in front of The Godfather.

I think if I am perfectly honest I would recommend them a Charley Chaplin film :)

I watched "The Godfather" all the way through just to see what all the hype was about, even though I lost interest after 20 minutes. I couldn't relate to or understand any of the situations, and I kept thinking about how much the main characters should be in jail. The same seems to apply to any mob movie I see.
