I'm feeling a bit down today because my aspergers is preventing me from doing simple tasks like going to bed on time...grr 2am!

Could people tell/list me the positive bonuses, or side, things to Aspergers? :(

It depends on the social issues of Asperger's I view to a certain level NOT having friends as a huge POSITIVE such as not getting mixed up with drugs,partying etc. or any of those issues plus unlike most College students who whine and complain about there school work I LOVED IT and I feel that was frown upon I MUCH RATHER LOVE LEARNING SCHOOL WORK AND RESEARCH PAPERS THAN COMPLAINING ALL THE TIME AND YET I'M THE ONE WITH BAD BEHAVIOR!! !! !! !! !! ! (Sorry I like ranting LOL!! !) That just gets me upset when I remember College and stress is all you see. :-(

Nothng that can help with being happy. That is really what matters most.

One positive is the ability to think and see things that NTs can not. It would help with being a scientist or a profession that requires deep thinking.

If you are a hermit and have no real interest in excelling in anything in life other than intellectual pursuits, you are "good to go" with AS.

Can see things no one else can see. Do things no one else can do. (Real things? / As real as Lo Pan!)

Sorry, opportunity knocked and I came running. I don't know what life it like to be other than who I am; I do know that I see beauty in things others pass by... and that alone is something I treasure.

Our special talents and infinite amounts of knowledge that a lot of people don't know about!

Also, as far as I can tell, Aspies are trustworthy, good friends.

I love the way I can be delighted by a soft thing, or obsessed with a sparkly thing, and stay entertained for hours, or even days.

I suspect its an AS thing, but I'm not sure, maybe I'm just easily entertained.

Well, I'm a technological genius. Sometimes you get savant abilities, but usually most people with Aspergers are more technically able than normies.

-analytical mind -depth;
-in a situation where there's a conflict between emotions and logic...the brain is usually the stronger one and will prevail (life saver);
-focus on detail and powerful concentration (when you want to focus on something); ----you can stand being on your own (in the sense that you don't necessarily feel the need for others around you)..so in the event you ARE on your own, you can cope with this and even like it;
-inquisitive and individualistic?

I think there are many many talents and positives to AS, in general..just that people need to learn to master these qualities, to develop them, to use them and to adapt them and themselves to their environments. Basicaly to just become COMFORTABLE in their own skin!

I think there's a LOT that an AS person should/could bring to society (in terms of keeping cool and being analytical instead of emotional, when making decisions).

The fact that once you realize you have AS, you no longer have to hold yourself to NT standards. You can seek happiness as YOU see fit. If that doesn't involve social climbing, material acquisition, or bed hopping, you no longer have to feel like you are somehow defective. When you accept this, you can pursue your own interests without caring what others think. Your own opinion need be your only measure as to your level of success, however you define that.

When you realize this, you understand that we have a greater potential to be happy than they do. Playing the social game in our consumerist society leads to perpetual insatiability, where you everything have attained is never enough. There is always someone higher on the social status totem pole. Keeping up with the Joneses (and trying to one-up them) is the obsessive interest most NT's are afflicted with. Our obsessions may be weird to them, but they are far more practical and attainable.

WOW, I thought someone would come up with something new that was widespread that I hadn't experienced yet.

Still, it is interesting how putting them to use seems to get rid of depression.

We're not so swayed by social conventions or peer pressure. True, there are some NTs who remain independent and strong-willed, but because we're not usually high up in the social pecking order, we don't have to conform to pointless and illogical social norms. Getting totally obsessive about a widdly promotion would make me down and depressed - not worrying about those things is highly liberating.

Also, Loveable Nerd put it very well. :)

The ability not to give in to the pressures that society puts on people. I also enjoy my special interests.

I think everyone here has great answers! I'd like to add:

I see a lot of beauty in the world. Things no one else seems to notice.

Attention to detail makes it impossible for me to do a piss-poor job of anything. I'm always proud of my work whether it's mopping a floor or performing bacteriologic testing.

I don't give a $#!% if people try to gossip about me or talk trash about me.

I am honest and trustworthy.

At work I put in 1000% effort into whatever I'm doing. (Yes, I know that's mathematically impossible.) I don't need to engage in mindless chit-chat with my coworkers, and I just like doing physical stuff. I've been at this job for three weeks, and my boss said I have a raise coming my way soon. :D

I have a wealth of information in my brain about animals. My friends and family always ask me for advice about their pets, and I can nearly always help them.

I am very calm in emergency situations. I can do what needs to be done, and I don't freak out.

Seeing the world and situations rationally has huge advantages, and some drawbacks.

Seeing the world emotionally, and not rationally has some advantages, and HUGE drawbacks.

Id rather be an aspie. Everyone has their problems, the trick is to focus on the good, and almost ignore the bad side. Theres bad sides to everything, in all shades of gray and white. Pick the side you like the best, IMO.

Its funny how its taken most of my life to come up with that, after huge amounts of comparisons with NTs and some socialized deprogramming. The more I do it, the happier I am.

its all good! how can it not be? its how we are!

wow...that's a good question :)

afaic being autistic has been a massive net positive. Mensa level IQ, immunity to herd conformist BS, a natural inclination to a wide rage of academic interests, high-level critical thinking skills, and the tradeoff is being socially awkward in a society that's actually pretty f****d up in terms of how "normal" people relate to each other. But that's for MY situation, and autistic people vary and ebb along highs and lows, and I'm not sure I'd sit here and tell this to the parents of a LFA child, but for me, I'd rather be me than someone else.
