I'm just curious, for those of you auties who are middle-aged or older, how many of you have had children? How many? Do you think you will have any more after this? (Please answer even if you don't have any kids, 'cause that's part of what I wanna find out.)

I ask because I'm kind of curious about rates of sexual reproduction in the Spectrum.

Thanks. :)

Have one. Not planning on having more.

I'm an aspie, but then since HFA and AS are now being considered "the same", I guess it qualifies.

I've got two kids,

One Aspie
One High Functioning Autistic.

We're not having any more because we believe that we need to spend lots of time with them and that to split our time again would result in a child getting inadequate attention...

Orel: Oh.
Clay: But remember, son, I love you enough.
Orel: I love you enough, too, Dad.

I'm an aspie and have four children (I know, I'm game)

Two are NT, one is HFA and the other has AS.

Hubby is NT.

We're not having anymore. :(

Very high rates of passing it on.

A sperm donor had 11 children....all were on the spectrum.

It just depends on if you consider a difference or a disorder as to if you to risk it/

Or in my case you had no idea you were on the spectrum until AFTER the kids were born, hence no more kids.

Got one kid. He's AS, DXed. I'm unDXed AS. His mother, (probable/near-certain) unDXed HFA or AS (dyslexic, stims, redhaired, meltdowns, etc.)

When'd they put that in the DSM?

I want kids... looking to have maybe three. Though, I know I caint plan for the buggers. I figure all will probably be on the spectrum... my genetics is strongness.

Didn't claim they did. I use my own criteria occasionally. I BELIEVE that red or auburn hair is a factor. No proof, however. Just speculation.

I have 2 kids, one is HFA and the other has ADHD but is not under the spectrum. My son who is HFA probably also has ADHD but he is only 4.5 and they won't diagnose him with that yet.. and my daughter's ADHD is mild, she is 6.5 and definitely not under the spectrum. Two kids is perfect, I had my tubes tied a few years ago and as much as I love my kids, I have to say having my tubes tied was one of the wisest choices I have made in my life.. I couldn't cope with more than 2. I admire anyone who has 3+ kids.

I'm dx'd Aspie, OCD, PTSD, and Panic disorder and I have 4 children. I was only recently diagnosed Aspie.
My husband is dx'd with ADD and learning disabilities.

10 yo dd is not diagnosed, but has been evaluated and said to have strong Aspie traits, OCD traits, and tests highly gifted.
5 yo dd is dx'd Aspie, above average intelligence, severe sensory issues.
2 yo girl with food allergies and sensory issues.
10 month old boy appears NT so far.

I'm not sure if we're done or not. My baby is still too young to think about that.
Oh and btw... I'm not middle aged yet. You make it seem like "really old" people have kids. :P
