In some breeds, specific variants of behavior-related genes are "fixed," or seen in essentially every animal. Curiously, some of those genes are in regions that in the human genome seem to be involved in autism, brain development and mental retardation.

Does that actually suggest the genes have a similar effect?

I find it terribly sad to think that in order to survive with humans a species would have to be mentally ret*d or altered. Maybe it lessens any pain they might feel for having an uneventful life in slavery.
Ugh, bred to be ret*d walking masses of flesh... it's like a horror story. Monstrous.

some of what Temple says about cows in thinking in pictures makes them sound on the spectrum.

No wonder Temple Grandin writes extensively about the similarities between autistics and cows.

C-AUT-tle topic

Got milk? Where's the beef?

Now, picture thinking cows? Mooove on over. Imagination running rampant while chewing the cud.

Things change when you are involved in Sl-AUT-ER-ing issues.

Mad cow disease, perhaps? Uddering such claims!! Graze-y.

LOL no!

What I means is, is it likely that having those genes in the certain regions will cause similar effects in cows than they do in humans.
