Does anyone else have a tendency to repeat conversations you had with somebody out loud to yourself? I do this especially when I said something particularly funny or impressive. I like to go over and over it by myself and usually pace around the room as I say it. Another thing I do is make up conversations with people and pace around the room pretending I'm talking to them. I feel mad when I do it but I can't seem to stop myself.

Yes, I do it very often. But I did it more when I was younger

Yes. I do this in exactly the way you describe. As a matter of fact I find this to be more fun a lot of times, than actually talking to other people. Just seems more satisfying. Don't know why.

Yes, I am sorry you do this, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've done this for as long as I can remember, and it's gotten worse since formal diagnosis--maybe tired of fighting it, I guess. I even do this with conversations from years ago, the curse of good memory. It's terrible, usually, because it's the unsuccessful exchanges that I can't let go of. I re-live these unpleasant events. This is different from the vebal tics or scripting I think. (I do this too: right now I am saying, "If I had a nose like yours, I'd amputate it on the spot." I heard it in a clip from an old film; I just like the way it was said. And, while no Cyranno, I ain't crazy about my own nose. ) Once I heard my father say, "If only things would happen once," after some humilating event at his job. He knew his memory would revive the insult and hurt him again and again, possibly for years to come.

I believe it is simply fantasy. Keeping yourself entertained through pure imaginary pride....

Which is also why I myself have a hard time moving forward. Dreaming is easier than acquiring, and destroying the masses in your head as they run screaming "fear the evil juggernaut nim!" .. is easier than dealing with social situations in a office environment such as ordering coffee from your secretary, or (a example) .. talking to someone at work.

I put into consideration that what we are feeling is actually daydreaming - which is a byproduct of the mind keeping itself occupied with time and keeping us out of the present.

I do it too. Out loud if I'm home alone. Or in my head if there're people around.
These conversations can be running in my head like a minimized window in a computer

Yes - also if I'm sitting with paper in front of me or at the computer, I find myself writing out these repeated/imagined comments or conversations. I'm much more eloquent in text than I am verbally, and it seems to translate to this habit as well.

Yes, ever since I was a teenager, I think. Replaying conversations is a useful way to try to work out what *really* happened, and sometimes insights are gained after the fact that might have been missed when the conversation happened. I have also caught myself repeating a cashier's statement of a dollar amount. Six eighty eight. "Six eighty eight" I repeated for a few seconds while I was getting my wallet out. I could repeat the statement before I understood it, and this enabled me to hang onto the value so I didn't have to say "What?".

I do this.

But I only repeats the parts that I had said.

I don't do this willingly and cannot stop it until it's over. It happens.

Yeah I do tend to do this on my own when I think it over to myself. Also when I predict future conversations with this person and sometimes conversations I may have with random people I do say what I say and what the other person says out loud. I hate doing it but I'm glad that I do on my own and not in the presence of other people.

I also do it, especially when I've said something funny or impressive. If it's funny enough I could have fictional conversations for days and keep finding ways to bring up that joke or comment.
I especially do it when I feel I've wasted an opportunity and end up pretending to be that person, trying to figure out answers to my questions that I suspect this person would've said. To do that I generally go over every interaction I've had with that person in the past and try to find something usefull to my questions.

It's a strange thing to do and my family has caught me doing it a few times (scaring me half to death).
