My family has an ongoing joke that I'm 12 years old. In fact, my sister got me a birthday card that said "Congrats, you're 12" for my 20th birthday. Customers at work tend to think I'm young too, and consequently don't take me too seriously. The lowest age I've gotten is 10. Yes, I'm 10 and ringing up your alcohol. Makes sense. In addition to that, an old woman once asked if I knew about child labor laws, because certainly I wasn't old enough to be working. I just laughed because I thought she was kidding. She wasn't.

I've noticed that I feel self-conscious about looking young. I know that it'll be rewarding when I'm 40 and look 30, but for now it can be challenging. Today I went grocery shopping by myself in the early afternoon. I felt like all the older people shopping were thinking, "What is that child doing alone?"

I've received mixed opinions about my appearance by guessing my age.
In the past, people would mostly guess I was older than I actually was, but that could be because I was much taller than the average Swedish girl.

Like one time when my school was in another city, and I had to take the taxi there every morning. One of the taxi drivers would suddenly ask me how old I was, but wanted to guess first. He said somewhere between 18-20 years old, but my real age was 14.

Then there was the curator (is that the right word?) at my secondary school who was talking to my art teacher, and he saw my self-portrait I made. He remarked that it looked like my future self.

But then I've heard from a few people that I look younger than I actually am.

Even though this might be a false generalization, I like this question for a number of reasons.

1) I don't think I've ever seen anyone ask this before.
2) I've wondered the same thing in the past, but never bothered to ask.
3) To this day, people don't believe me when I tell them how old I am.
4) I got carded regularly buying alcohol, until I was 35, even though the drinking age was 18 when I first started buying.

That should answer your question about me personally. Whether most Aspies do look younger than they are, I couldn't tell you. I haven't actually met enough of them face to face.

BTW: My avatar is not me. I'm fifty-one. Sorry, I will not post my pic though.

I'm 46 and have always looked young for my age. Pissed me off when I was 21 and my sister was 17 and they all thought she looked older. However now people say I look like I am 30. So if that's a benefit then I'll take it.

Everyone thinks I look older then I am, I think it's because I tend to have a serious facial expression, I'm 16, but people have thought I was a collage student before.

I look way young. In public, I get mistaken for around 12, and I'm 16. I'm really short, just barely five foot, and I'm skinny and I have a young face and all that. The administration at my school tends to ask if I'm in the right building, because the freshmen are separated from the rest of the school. Most of them look older than me. Oh well, I guess it means I won't look like a relic when I'm thirty.

One day, you'll be glad about looking younger, especially when you see people you haven't seen in a decade or more...

I read on a forum once that someone thought it was because we use our facial muscles less. This makes us look younger because obviously, we won't get the same lines and creases in our face, that most people get by our age. I don't know if this is true but it makes sense to me....

i think it's genetic, actually. i'm 45 and people think i'm in my early twenties. nice, huh? not so nice when i was twenty four and everyone thought i was fifteen. a security guard in vegas wanted to see my id when i was in the casino and i was twenty seven. and a cop ran over to me when i was drinking orange juice because he thought it was beer and i was in my mid twenties by then. age seven, my mother's friends said, "how old is she, five?"
