My brother had such bad ear infections when he was a baby, that they made him sick and feverish - and he's NT. (He's 24 now).

All due respect to any fellow members who answered other than "born with it"; I don't think it's helpful or healthy (mentally) to find something to blame for autism, or for anything else in life. Autism, just as with race, sexual orientation, and physical attributes, are just the way we are. Anyone who needs to blame something or someone, or blame oneself for some kind of screwup, is wasting a lot of time and energy, and is preventing self-growth by doing so.

MOVE ON, excel, and don't go searching eternally to find fault.

Seriously .... I got mine in a cleverly disguised birthday present.
It was one of those surprise birthday parties I wasn't invited to.
I jumped out of the box and have been unwrapping ever since.

I don't remember being any different from how I am now, so I guess I was born with it.

I dunno. I thought it be fun to start because I am sure we all get told how we got our autism. My mom thinks mine came from ear infections while some other parents think their kids got their autism from birth complications or seizures, and of course vaccines.

I wasn't expecting people to get all snarky by saying things like aliens or watching too much TV.

Wow. Did he ever lose his hearing? Was he ever speech delayed because of it?

How often did he get them as a baby?

Honestly, I can't pinpoint a specific variable or factor which might have lead to my development of AS though, I did have several ear infections as early as 9mos of age.Actually, due to medical failure of my doctor I did loose some hearing but, I'd not say that is the triggering factor as, there are many people in my family whom are autistic so, I really don't know nor am I concerned with how I became the person I am rather, contented with simply being human as best as possible...

I am sure mine is genetic. And I had a lot of ear infection as a child, in addition to all the regular vaccines.

No, he never lost his hearing, and wasn't speech delayed either.
He got them at least once a year, right upto he was about 3.

But he turned out NT.

Oh. I got them all the time. They come back like a few weeks later after they went away.

My brothers also got them too but they didn't get them all the time. I hear lot of young kids get ear infections, 1 in 3. But I doubt they get them chronically like I did.

My pediatrician always bragged that I was the only baby in 30-years of practice who never cried when given a shot. I think I had it before any vaccines. No ear aches, mom was a health foodie way back in the 50s.

yep, I was born this way.
