I run in to ignorant people all the time. I have a perfectly "normal" appearance but get harassed about over analyzing "every thing" a lot of coworkers think in slow because I am not quick witted. I don't seen to have a sense of humor like theirs, little do they know my IQ is higher than theirs by at lest 30 points if they are in the center of the curve. I have currently been demoted in title because of this, same pay but simpler position. I doesn't help that my speech to others sounds like I am stoned. My work is done with more professionalism than any of my pears but because Im not a "warm" person I will not go any further in my currant job. Sad part is if I speak the way I think the words are above them just a little ironic that I have to reduce my usable vocabulary for them and they think Im the slow one.

IMO, people see me as verbose and intelligent but hyper and sometimes clueless.

When I was back in sixth grade and I was being bullied by my peers, I once asked one of the "nicer" girls directly, "Do you think I'm stupid?"

Her answer was "academically-no mentally-YES, you're the stupidest person I know"

Looking back, I'm wonder what she meant she said the word "mentally." Did she mean "socially" or did she mean "in everything except schoolwork?" I got straight As but often got in trouble in class for blurting things out and failing to conform.

Calling an autistic person stupid is like calling Einstein stupid.

I also have the bad habit if someone talks down to me or comes right out calling me an idiot I usually will listen to what ever they say after that waiting for the chance to turn what they have said against them or looking for something is really wrong so I can try to humiliate them.

I've had people call me "einstein," "idiot," "moron," "ret*d," and yes, stupid.

I’ve been called all those things.

In 7th grade, one would have thought that ret*d was my actual first name.

But you know what, those people calling us these things, they are the stupid ones, the ignorant.

In all honestly and until just recently, I always thought I was stupid. One day I took an online IQ test and was surprised to find out that I am above average.

Lots of people think I'm stupid and lots of people think I'm smart and lots of people think I'm inbetween.

People usually either think I'm stupid right off and treat me like a child, probably because I struggle to speak with people I don't know (I'm pretty sure I actually have selective mutism), don't look people in the eye, and generally come off as odd and/or off in my own world, or they realize that I actually am smart but think I'm a lot smarter than I am, and then insist I'm lazy, not trying, or don't care when I can't meet their expectations, despite the fact that I'm actually trying my hardest.

Yes. And I also think I'm stupid so I give people a reason to act on it.
My brain activity is quite fast yet my reactions are rather slow.
