I escape to the tutorial room, which is a small, spare classroom. Its heaven entering when you're exhausted and need a break.
I often invite my good friend in to have lunch with me whenever i'm in the mood for company.
I have a whole set of lockers to myself, which I hide the keys hidden a cupboard. Obviously I let my friend have a secret locker too. 8)
I also have access to the tutorial room key when it's locked on Monday mornings, which is another good advantage for when I get locked in by one of the teachers in charge of locking the doors after lunch.
I remember distinctly in 1st Year when I once did get locked in (didn't have any keys) and had to call my mum from my mobile, tell her to call the receptionist and say that I was locked in.

Ate? I was homeschooled though so I don't think this topic really applies to me.

I used to hide in the computer room or library. When I finally got a job, for the first couple of months I used to go for a walk in my lunch times just to get away from everyone. After that I knew my job well enough that I could just keep going and enjoy the peace and quiet while everyone else was having lunch.

A couple of years back I did some work for a posh private school. The teachers and students all ate in the same hall and I was 'invited' (read ordered) to join them. Talk about hell. Trying to make small talk with the principal in the middle of a hall full of 10 - 15 year olds while doing my best not to look like I am about to completely lose the plot. ARGH!

I didn't have money for food.

I stayed in the band hall and practiced. I had a band class before and a band class after lunch. I just stayed and didn't have to deal with anyone.

After reading some of these posts, I realize that I am fortunate to be able to sit with a group of friends. Since I am only a freshman, I have not seen what will happen at lunch in future years. However, in middle school, there were strict lunch rules such as 6 seats per table and only half the lunch room was available to my lunch shift, so I shuffled from table to table and was sometimes rejected. In high school, with the much more relaxed lunch rules and the freedom to steal chairs, I found a lunch group that accepts me. The people I sit with at lunch aren't super popular, but they aren't "dweebs" either. The people at my lunch table have some similar interests and share many of the same opinions. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, me and some of my friends go to the other side of the school and buy cookies. On other days, I leave 5 minutes before the bell and go to my programming class or wander around the school.
