How dare they discriminate against Aspergers?
Not very helpful.

Ok thanks for the clarification Ci
Ok you have some underlying issues with others (Emos?) that appears to be confounding and skewing your views on those of us who choose to self DX. I notice you are not sure of your own diagnosis? are you really in a secure position to be so judgmental of people who claim to be Aspies but may not have a formal DX?
When you're aware that genetic factors determine your neurobiological factors that determine 50% of your happiness and you know that society values an emotional state that's beyond your control to choose and you know it, clap your hands.

I think he was being sarcastic.

This was a fascinating thread.
I was denied disability my first go around and didn't appeal the decision. Instead I went to Vocational Rehabilitation. Where I'm at, the folks who do the Vocational Rehabilitation are the same people who do the Disability Determination Services. I basically told them to either help me find and keep a job or help me survive by getting on disability. They denied the Vocational Rehabilitation so I reapplied for disability and it was approved. At this time my diagnosis was only a mood disorder. Being on the spectrum was irrelevent for my case.
The majority of people who have physical disabiilties such as blindness and still work go through the system. They get on disability. They go through Vocational Rehabilitation. Then they rejoin the workforce. The programs are there for a reason. The refusal to use the programs only hinders the person who refuses the help. Demeaning people who are going through the system is simply bigotry.
The problem with disability where I'm at is the fact that healthcare is tied to it. If we ever have real healthcare reform and manage to get univeral healthcare, I believe that the numbers of people making an attempt to get off disability and get back into the workforce will improve. As it is now, I personally am terrified of having a failed attempt to go back to work and losing my medical benefits in the process. I have every intention of eventually getting off disability and getting back into the workforce in some way. The prospect of losing my healthcare makes every decision very calculated and slows the whole process down.
I have decided to appeal the decision. In my country, Australia, it is free to appeal the decision. I truly believe I did not handle the pressure of the Job Capacity Assessment and I will seek to have a new Job Capacity Assessment. I will be more prepared to answer the questions, I need to reiterate that I do not see my extreme social anxiety disorder getting any better in the next two years and it will be difficult for me to cope with working 15 hours or more per week.
By appealing the decision it makes it appear that I am genuine and serious about my application. I have the right to request a new Job Capacity Assessment.
Please.
I'm a left wing liberal and I strongly believe in the individual's need to work if they can work. Disability will reject most claims the first time and after the first appeal. Thereafter an attorney has to be hired, who will usurp a percentage of your SSI if/when you finally get it. It will take years. There is no "discrimination". It's just what they do because they know most applicants will give up after their first rejection and some will not pursue an attorney's help after the second rejection.
The OP can probably work. Whatever "full blown autism" is probably needs an attorney to pitch the case because you seem capable of communicating with others through a computer. You're articulate enough for that. "Full blown autism" would seem very low functioning to me. Maybe this is why doctors don't use "full blown" as a diagnosis description.
SSI is for people who cannot sustain themselves no matter how they try. They just earnestly cannot do it. That's what my tax dollars pay for. It's not for someone to say, "Working is haaard. I don't get along with people and it's really haaard to keep a schedule. The government should give me money so I don't have to push myself to do what's uncomfortable for me." Screw that. Go to work. There's tons of people with AS who work. They can even have excellent paying jobs with NASA (the government who's apparently discriminating against you).
As the OP says in another thread, don't use Aspergers as an excuse to behave poorly. You can work and you're not fooling anyone.
Someone once told me, in all seriousness and knowing I was disabled, that I should spend all my days doing whatever my [employed] boyfriend tells me to...all the housework, all the cooking, and anything he wants in the bedroom - on benefits you're not allowed anything nice, anything at all...any freedom, any respect or any individual rights.

That's typically the reaction any female gets from a fundie Christian. I've found that the proper response is to say calmly that, as fully-functioning adult, you have the right to make your own life choices.
Remember, you have the advantage here; you can see that they're full of it. If you react calmly and don't flip out, it'll creep them out and they'll shut up very, very quickly. (Wish it had a better result, but this is the best I found.)

With all due respect, you pay your tax dollars because it is legally required of you, and the government decides where to place that money. I have no respect for anyone who complains about their taxes going to pay for anyone on disability but apparently has nothing to say about the Pentagon's fiscal bloat.
I don't recall anyone in this thread saying "Working is haaard. I don't get along with people and it's really haaard to keep a schedule. The government should give me money so I don't have to push myself to do what's uncomfortable for me." I believe this is what is called a "straw man."
I think something like 10-20% of adults with Asperger's Syndrome work, incidentally. That may work out to "tons" but it's also indicative of how difficult it is for autistic adults to find and keep work, and may be indicative of how many simply cannot/ Perhaps not all who are out of work, but I would expect a significant percentage.
You cannot tell whether anyone can or cannot work based on the fact that they type posts on a forum.

Whatever this is supposed to mean. You start it off with a lie (ie "with all do respect") and then end with something irrelevant (ie your Pentagon babble). Yay for you. Yes, I pay my tax dollars because it is legally required of me. I am politically active and vote for politicians who will push these tax dollars and other funding toward the programs I want them to go toward. I want to be legally required to pay more taxes so these goals can be better accomplished instead of undermined in funding cuts. Nothing happens in a vacuum.
It's the incessant whining of people who are denied disability because it's determined they can work and then they whine about it being impossible for them to work because they have difficulty keeping a schedule or getting along with others. It just makes it harder, not impossible. SSI is for people who cannot sustain themselves without that help. These programs are getting cut too much as it is. We really don't need leeches taking money who don't need it. I'm happy when someone who can work gets denied.
When they type what was determined about their ability to work on this post on this forum based on professional analysis of their condition, yes I really can.

Eh, I've picked up some weird writing habits from other people over the years. Still, I am not sure how it was a lie - was I disrespectful, or did I somehow give you too much or too little? Were you not due any at all?
It's not really irrelevant, although I acknowledge it may not be applicable to you. I only ever hear people complain about their tax dollars when those tax dollars might benefit people who have difficulty functioning in society and who get assistance so they can meet their basic needs. I hardly ever hear complaints about tax dollars in reference to military/defense spending. Admittedly, it is not on topic for this thread, but I'd like to hear it simply anywhere.
I do understand what you are saying about taxation, funding, and funding cuts, and I agree (except for the part where I do not work and do not currently pay taxes).
Sometimes people are determined as able to work when they cannot, because they were unable to make a sufficient case, or because the person doing the determination does not understand the limitations they work with. One area, for example, that social security fails badly on is understanding how limiting and frustrating chronic pain is.
My problem is not that people who can work are denied, my problem is when people on internet fora make that determination on the basis of a few lines of text and make a big deal about their tax dollars in the process. This is especially dubious in fora dedicated to particular disabilities when unemployment rates among disabled people tend to be extremely high.
Twice, "professional analysis" of my condition has said that I can work in environments that overload and shut me down. This was after another professional analysis of my condition categorized me as "unemployably disabled." So not only does one professional say I can work in environments that are themselves disabling to me, another professional says the opposite. So how does it work, exactly? I am disinclined to take such analysis as infallible.

That said, I don't know if the OP is even telling the truth. He's said a lot of provocative things here, and he admitted in one thread that he likes to troll, so I take him with a grain of salt.
He's also wrong about his "alcoholics and junkies" line, which pushes me toward troll:
