Mom told Jd if he cleaned his room, we would go ride the tractors of course if Jd's room was a mess not sure what you would call my room.JD ran to his room and came back in 10 mins his room was clean really it was already clean. It is never a mess he got his tractor and went to the car. Sorry for the bad video it is hard to drive and take video

If JD understands what people ask him to do, that's half the battle won already.

Ok got home from the skate park and decide to see what Jd was doing Guess since mom said his name it is ok I walked in the den and he was playing with his tractors which is very normal but he was singing which is not normal the same song over and over it goes like this

Before the sun came up
He sipped that coffee black
Slid on his muddy boots
Pulled down his feed store cap
He taught me how to grease the points
On that John Deere 9620 R (That is what my Grandpa has)
But what I didn't know
Up on that tractor
Things might be faster in the world
But big wheels rollin' slow
Help you see what's important
What really does matter
Up on that tractor
Just like the dirt is black
So do the years fly by
But when it was time to go
He wanted me to know
Up on that tractor
Things might be faster in the world
But big wheels rollin' slow
Help you see what's important
What really does matter
Up on that tractor
It tore my world apart
When I had to go
Didn't get to say goodbye
And I miss him everyday
When all the fields grew up
This is right back where I came
Up on that tractor
Things might be faster in the world
But big wheels rollin' slow
Up on that tractor
Things might be faster in the world
But big wheels rollin' slow
Help you see what's important
What really does matter
I know even more now what really does matter
Up on that tractor
Up on that tractor
Up on Grandpa's tractor

I looked for the song on the net and found it He changed some words but knew the song we can't figure out where he heard it plus He does not talk and how did he know what tractors Grandpa has I had to call and ask. I guess I shouldn't be amazed he has started to amaze us everyday just not sure why he is changing so much and what seems so fast

That's a complex song for a 6 year old. I also can sing songs spontaneously. But I still don't talk as in conversing or expressing my thoughts. The singing is more repeating a string of words rather than assembling them in the head and then speaking them. But it's a good sign.

There's usually understanding. Complying is the tricky part.

It's like you have to spoon-feed him things-----making sure the good stuff is the stuff that's visible. At first, one has to be smart when doing this.

But, many times, when this positive reinforcement is used, you can insert all the lessons which he might not want to learn without the positive reinforcement (the tractor).

Think of: Ice cream and baby aspirin. Mothers and fathers do this all the time. They mix the medicine with the ice cream. Very smart thing to do. The kid likes it, and he/she doesn't know he/she is taking medicine, too.

It's easy to think when someone with autism does not respond to something, they don't understand. But what it really is is not being able to put whatever into action. Take it for granted he understands everything and takes in everything. In autism there can be high input but low output.

I'm wondering is if he retained all that from just hearing the song once.

I think we have underestimated him I think he has learned more in his school than we know I'm not sure he can't read some when he wants too

Thing with songs is it's easy to mishear lyrics. It's not until I read what the lyrics are that I know all the words right.

I never get a song right unless I see the words but never remember the words

It's important for an autistic child to have a special interest. It's opens up their minds.
Think of it as a learning style. It's a learning style he will have all his life, to be so passionate about something.
You are both amazing kids.
