I have GOT to quit smoking. I wish they'd effing legalize cannabis already, it's how Willie Nelson quit. It's not just illegal where I'm at, it's very hard to find when you know almost nobody locally.

I once knew a man who was in a similar situation. He managed to get his hands on a few seeds (I think it was either an online provider or in a bit of mary-jane he got somewhere), and he grew the stuff indoors in a cunningly concealed part of his home. Apparently he got new seeds off the plants he grew and continued to grow them from those seeds for years, and was thus completely independent of the outside world for his supplies. He reckoned they were dead easy to grow, and he seemed to be a somewhat happier man for doing it. Of course I wouldn't recommend you followed his example.

it needs to be said that there is a distinction between singing vocal register, and speaking vocal register, with some overlap. i've heard singing tenors who spoke in a light baritone, such as the late Jan Peerce.

Yes I do that - speaking lower than I sing. People have expressed surprise at the difference. Frankly I still dislike my speaking voice but mostly I like my singing voice, except when I'm in the process of recording it with tons of retakes, but once I've stepped back from the focussing I'm often surprised at the quality I managed to get.

Is it normal to sing in a lower register than you speak? Not that I sing all that often, but thats something I remember doing.

i notice that for many bass-baritones [singing] who in conversation tend to speak mostly in a higher voice.

internationally famous voice artist thurl ravenscroft, in the 80s, in conversation.

ravenscroft in operatically trained singing mode.

medium baritone. similar to many actors. in contrast, a light baritone would be somebody like frank sinatra. a dark baritone would sound like harold reid of the statler brothers-

If you can still modify the poll, you could use a Contralto/Countertenor option in there.

Plus "Mezzo" ... and "Coluratura"!
