What are your favorite sensations?
lead aprons... who here likes the way it feels... *raises hand* i admit i have to say yes... and ive fallen asleep countless times while getting my big yearly x-ray series done (takes about 20-30 minutes) i decided to do some googling today and lo and behold i find the ones that the radiologist wears that goes all the way around you...
http://www.axms.com/productcart/pc/view ... product=82 not bad on pricing either... even has the neck thingie like my radiologist has, sweet sweet pressure on my neck, i love pressure on my neck! another cool thing is, simple to mummy wrap too... just get someone else to help you and they strap your arms inside with the belly strap man... i would fall asleep soooo easy that way...
too bad my parents dont understand me enough to do interventional things like this otherwise i would be looking for this under that christmas tree about time i stopped loosing sleep to my sensory issues...
so heres a few questions,
when you go for x-rays do you like the lead apron?
would you sleep in one at home if given the opportunity?
would you not be embarrased if sensory issues made it necessary to wear in public?
i would answer yes to all three.. if people asked me on the third id just say "aww shucks... forgot to take my apron off when going to break..."
I actually do enjoy the feel of those lead aprons. I happened to think about it just the other day, when I was at the dentist's and they had to give me an X-ray to see what was happening to one of my teeth. The one thing that bothers me about them, the dentist's ones anyway, is that they are usually extremely uncomfortable around the neck. The one I'd worn at the dental clinic I go to has this rather sharp edge, and when the dental X-ray was being taken, I had to stretch my neck pretty hard and lean my chin right over that edge, which was not pleasant at all. But the feeling of heaviness on my chest definitely was.
The one on that site actually looks pretty attractive.
I'm not sure if I'd wear something like this in public (though who knows, I'm weird that way and I have no qualms about putting on all sorts of odd things ) - perhaps not, given that I don't have severe sensory issues and it wouldn't be absolutely necessary, though of course it'd be pleasant/calming. However I've been seriously considering buying a chainmail shirt, like those hardcore Tolkien fans wear for their real-life roleplaying games. Someone here mentioned a while ago that they had such a shirt and wore it everywhere under their clothes for the same purpose, even to school. I read it and just thought, why not do the same. It becomes especially attractive when I think what it'd be like if I put it on on top of something really soft, like an angora pullover.
when you go for x-rays do you like the lead apron?
Truthfully, I could take it or leave it. It gives me a sense of safety and protection. That's all.
would you sleep in one at home if given the opportunity?
No. But I don't have sensory issues to such a degree that I would have a need to. Certainly, if I did, I would sleep in one if I felt that it was helpful or therapeutic.
would you not be embarrased if sensory issues made it necessary to wear in public?
No, I would not be embarrassed if it was necessary for me to wear one in public.

yeah i for some reason really really find the pressure very calming, and the ones at the hospital have no sharp areas and in fact they use a very soft lead it almost feels like liquid its so soft feeling.
the one on the website i have to admit and also the ones my radiologists wear are definitely attractive... next GQ or VOGUE thing anyone, the huge booming trend of radiology clothing
me id probably wear mine all the time because i am almost a totally different person when i am getting X-Rays, its just such a calm peaceful state i go into i would like to have that state all the time, it would also allow me to go into places that would in other cases create negative reaction. oooh, chainmail sounds pretty interesting too and in fact id like that over something soft and thick to make it a warm huggy sensation

People used to mess with me in school by touching my head. I did not like it.
yeah i dont like any sudden light touch. and i dont really enjoy light touch period... sudden deep pressure is a totally different story
I generally don't like light touch or pressure either. When people embrace me too lightly or touch me at random moments it's like a slight shock. It's even worse if they do it while I'm not looking, so the touch comes completely unexpected; it can give me quite a fright to be touched out of the blue like thus. The last time it happened I was doing the dishes in the bathroom, because the faucets were broken elsewhere, and a friend who'd been sitting in the kitchen got bored, came up to be from behind and touched me on the shoulder because she wanted to tell me somthing. I almost literally jumped up.
I do like one special type of light touch, though - that is, tracing the tip of my finger extremely gently on certain areas of my skin, or using a soft squirrel-hair paintbrush to do it. It gives me this electric zinging sensation which I find delightful. I remember that, as a child, my mother used to stroke me like this before I went to bed; I would show her the places on my skin I wanted her to touch, and refused to let her go when she stopped, asking her to do it again and again.

when i go for x-rays im usually asking "so uhm... am i going to need an apron for these x-rays???" so yeah that ones an obvious big fat YES
would i sleep in one at home, YES if i had the opportunity because my sensory issues are up the wazoo and i would be able to fall asleep so much easier, now adays i dont fall asleep till midnight and thats if im really lucky!
and no i wouldnt be embarrased in public i would say "its one of the new fashion trends... i hear radiological clothing is very in!"

This is very interesting, Toad. That you can absorb NT emotion through touch and thus experience a wider range than you normally do. What are the 4 emotions that you normally feel?
Mine are: Fear (anxiety); Anger; sadness and happiness. Although, if peace is an emotion, I sometimes experience that but only briefly - and then I worry that something must be wrong because it's something that I don't normally feel.
I experience this, too, which is why I don't like shaking hands with random strangers. Once, I met a neighbor of mine. He came over and introduced himself, extending his hand. Unthinking, I shook it, and was immediately engulfed in discomfort, and feelings of sadness. He told me his dog had cancer, and was terminal. I realized later that I had picked up his emotions. But only later. The trouble is, I don't always realize how to separate what I've inadvertently picked up, from my own issues.
And yes, I love the lead apron at the dentist's! I hate when they take it off. I am saving to buy a corset that I've seen on line: http://stores.channeladvisor.com/orchar ... 69/WHT/38B

would you sleep in one at home if given the opportunity? No, but would use it for brief periods of time.
would you not be embarrased if sensory issues made it necessary to wear in public? Yes. I would hate drawing unwanted attention/questions.

when you go for x-rays do you like the lead apron? yes, i really like weighted things on my stomach.
would you sleep in one at home if given the opportunity? indeed!! i use to sleep with a heavy doll on my stomach.. but i donno what ever happened to it.
would you not be embarrased if sensory issues made it necessary to wear in public? no.. i don't think i'd ever do that... unless i could find one with a pattern on it that matched one of my hats and ties.. lol. but, i'm not much for wearing stuff like that in public... my public fashion sense and my home fashion sense are two totally different things, though..
(btw, the fine mesh thing wasn't to wear, just small pieces of fabric to rub between my fingers.. )
i also really like having my back scratched.. especially the small of my back.

i think it'd be interesting if i could get a custom one.. lol, it would be an interesting trend... and, since trends loop in and out and back in, popularity wise, 30 years from now, all the kids will start wearing lead aprons and people will wonder why...

LOL!! and then all the baby stores would jump on the band wagon and start selling lead aprons for babies!! XD plus, they wouldn't need to put lead aprons on people when they got x-rayed, cause they'd already be wearing them.. XD i think everyone who wasn't a part of the fashion loop would be very confused by the whole thing. .. like i'm confused by the current fad of extremely bulky, ugly sequen purses... lol..

oh and lets not forget all the pet shops :p all the baby and kid stores every store in the world would hop on the trend! and thats true never have to put one on for x-rays, which means hospitals wont need to have them anymore, hence they can sell out theirs too for extra dough! also people would be awfully confused while us auties and aspies are liking it and some people would be like "whats with this weird fashion trend!"
hmm... i wonder why my radiologist chose to be a radiologist... if i could walk and everything id get into radiology cuz id get to wear nice lead apron all day and not be called unusual for it that would be the big reason for ME becoming a radiologist... i wonder what made her want to be one... and i wonder if shes aspie or autie like me... she is pretty damn hot if you ask me
