you're contradicting yourself. The two least important traits (both least impairing, and least correlating with the condition) of aspergers, are echolia, and touch sensitivity. Those are just the cherries on top of some, but not even present on most aspie individuals' dysfunction sundae. The sundae itself is social skills impairment ( caused by things other than those two traits you mentioned).

Correction, the most dominant/impairing traits for the autistic being diagnosed.

I still don't get it , if I was NT I could understand your offense , that's the way I see it a nothing person . What's wrong with nothing anyway, something is probably over ratted anyways

I WAS also offended by his post too...for about one nanosecond. Mistook him for an outside troll. But then I saw who the poster was, and remembered his recent other posts I have seen (about all of his despair, and about how he doesn't fit in even here on WP). Lets just say that if you check out his recent other posts you would also give him a free pass on it.

I'd just rename Asperger's "autism", because that's what it is, and it saves confusion.

I don't see any need for renaming.
Rather redefining. Defining different dimensions of autism spectrum.

Social processing deficiency (or something more politically correct but meaning the same) would be probably the main contributor to the classic AS. But it could be as well applied to other types of autism, where other factors like speech processing difficulty, would also play a role.

Donkey Patties

Actually, I refer to myself as Autistic. I don't even use High Functioning except on very rare occasions if it is necessary for the sentence structure. But the Spectrum is such a broad spectrum that I don't feel the need to say anything except Autistic. If people want more explanation about the particulars of my Autism, I am happy to talk to them about it.

I think Asperger's Syndrome is perfectly named and I don't think Hans Asperger would have it any other way as I believe he deserves all the credit that we can give him for shedding light on this form of Autism.

If I could call it anything else it would simply be High Functioning Autism and watch the utterly perplexed look appear on many NTs faces. Which I don't get tired of seeing by the way.

LOL

Actually, I'd add another classification, 'High-Functioning Aspergers.' A few relatives on both sides of my family probably had 'High-Functioning Aspergers.'

Hahahaha, you can rename it and redifine it.
The normies still won't understand, they don't care to understand. Their group will come to a consensus of what it is; which may be far from the Truth. That's how the NT's work, truth is far from important to them.

Better that you try to educate those that are willing to listen and curious to learn.

I don't mind Aspergers, however I don't really see clear cut differences between Aspergers and the rest of the autism spectrum, so I do actually like the idea of making everything just "autism spectrum". HOWEVER, I definitely don't agree with the way the 2013 DSM criteria have become more strict. In fact, I really don't even see much of a difference (other than severity) between autism and BAP. It still runs through the same families, still has similar challenges (although, again, varies by degree), and so biologically I think they're the same thing. I find the cut-off clinicians and scientists have decided upon between "autism" and "not autism" to be pretty arbitrary and based more on professional opinion than hard data.

Them's ma 2 cents.
