I am serious. I truly am an aspie. Ive had the diagnosis since i was 7. I was just curious about the college part because you're 22, so you mustve taken a couple years off, am i right, which many NTs do but im not making fun of you, im just curious why most other aspies wait so long to get a license.

Ok, sorry for my abrasiveness. I thought you were poking fun at me for being behind in life.

Yes, I did take a few years off. I spent most of it working, though, so that's where I made the money to get my life started now. I did attend community college for a bit, studying manufacturing technology, but then my field of interest changed. Now I'm doing Electrical Engineering at Oregon Tech.

You're right, most people are finishing college about this time, but not everyone follows the standard timeline. I've seen 50-60 year olds going back for further education.

Damn, I sure have hijacked this thread. Sorry everyone! :D

You havent hijacked it and yes lots of NTs take a couple years off before going to college. My dad, who is very NT took 2 years off because he wanted a break from school before going to college. I just keep wondering why most aspies delay getting the license.

I think it's just because our brains develop at a different rate than most. In my case, I guess I simply wasn't mentally prepared for it. A lot of Aspies get their license at 16, and some go their whole lives without driving. So what I'm thinking is that while our brains develop quickly in some areas (like our intense interests), they are slower than average in others, such as driving and other activities where one would interact with society.

I am also slower in certain areas like social skills. My 13 year old brother who is very NT, is way ahead of me at social skills. But he could probobly not drive as good as he would probobly be your stereotypical teenage daredevil behind the wheel. What college are you going to?

Got my drivers license right after I turned 17 on my second attempt. Had my permit for several months and spent a good number of hours driving with my parents with me. I think it paid off as I had one at fault accident several months after getting it and then didn't have another preventable accident until 13 years later. Haven't had (touch wood) a preventable accident in almost 14 years and a ticket in over 11 years and have driven likely close to 300,000 miles since the last at fault accident.

Got my motorcycle license in June of '98 at the age of just short of 32. Have been able to keep the rubber side down the whole time, IE not dropped or crashed it.

Got my class A in December of '06 at the age of 40. Drover OTR for a month but it didn't work out due to not being able to back and poor training. Hope to get back into it at some point. Also passed the written tests for hazardous, double/triple and tanker the same day I did my road test.

Got mine finally when I was 18 after delaying it for a couple of months until I felt I was "ready". I still have problems navigating rush-hour traffic, the horrors though. 8O Problems meaning on the spot decisions that after I'm done driving just give me sometimes a headache or lots of stress.

And ditch my eggshell, wicker basketed, wonder bicycle... madness. Far preferable results upon crashing into a wall I'd imagine.

It depends on how fast you get your permit, when you get that you have to like wait a year then you get the licence. That's how it is in my state yours my be different.

Got my licence when I was 26, but only because I had to with work. When I was younger, whilst I guess I wanted to drive, I just never had enough motivation to get out and do it (after all it meant meeting new people and having to get along with them).

And today, I'm sure I got caught in a speed trap, so I reckon I've just got my first speeding ticket & points after 14 years
