I could have spent a quiet New Years Eve at home with my mother and sister, but decided to make an attempt at socializing instead. I went to my brother's house down the street and hung out with a few people. It all went pretty well at first. These are people I have known for a while, so they know how I am and usually seem very understanding. I eventually passed out after drinking for a while, and woke up to somebody spraying shaving cream on my head. I wasn't the first person to pass out. I just got singled out as the guy to pick on. A little later they started talking crap about me, because they thought I had already passed back out. I got up and walked home in the middle of the night. I ended up breaking down in tears during the walk.

I think I'll just stay in this New Years Eve.

That doesn't sound like fun. Sorry you had such a terrible time, Tasbro.

I went to a party with college friends, but I wasn't invited initially and had to ask one of them if there was a party. I would have had a boring New Year's Eve if I didn't ask myself into it.

Spent it alone as planned. Had a few drinks and some food. Tried to watch the fireworks but wasn't particulary interested. My poor cats ran into my house because they were scared of them.
I thought it was good because my new electronic to-do list thing on my phone was working well for me and I'm still using it.

I had a bottle of good Scotch and played Fallout New Vegas. Not a bad way to spend the time.

I wasn't technically alone, my kids (13 & 11) and pets were also present. We watched a movie 'The Other Guys' earlier in the evening and then I debated between watching Lockup and a taped Oprah show from that afternoon, her interview with J. K. Rowlings, anyhow that won out and my daughter ended up watching it with me. At 15 minutes to midnight we watched the end of the Times Square celebrations and off to bed I went.

We enjoyed ourselves and I'm sure this coming NYE won't be much different, but so long as we are happy. :)

I did, but then I don't understand why this day is so significant anyway. The year could be said to begin or end at any point. In fact, with regards to the scientific definition of a "year", one could say a new year begins every day, as every day the world is 365 days from being in the same spot in it's orbit that it was the year before.

This.
All holidays are meaningless to me, so spending one alone doesn't feel any different than spending any other day alone.
