I had just started a new thread when it happened to me. A correlation?

Don't think so. But I don't watch as closely as some.

So has anyone figured out what it takes to get to number one yet?

I did that on a page I started once... which is very much dead. Hardly gets used anymore, and is long overdue to be completely overhauled.

You know, it's really frustrating to want to know the answer to something (so how are the members sorted) but not be able to understand the answer. I know the words are in English, but they make no sense to me at all. Can somebody please explain what this means, in non-technospeak? Please?

Haha, I'll try... I've been saying this in various ways and in various threads for a while now. Also frustrating to try to explain and nobody seems to notice.

When you login to WP it is stored in a 'table', which is part of a database on the WP server.
--> WP takes notes on when you visit.

After a certain amount of time you get dropped from this table. Until then, even if you log out and in again, you are still on the WP list. This time is one day.
--> After one day, you are taken off the WP list.

This is when you have the opportunity to be number one. I don't want to tell exactly how, but hopefully the above will help.

Sorry alyssa, I'll do my best to translate from the jargon.

When you log onto this website, it creates what's called a 'session', where information about your activities on the website is recorded - this info is only used to generate the "Who's Online" list and the "People Online" information, nobody but the administrator has access to this information.

The session info for each user online is stored in a data table, from which the website then takes a list of names off and displays the list as you see it. When it takes the data out for the list, whatever order it is in is how it is displayed.

How's that?

That's cool, hermit, if mine's too complicated yours would probably work better - I didn't even see your post until after I did mine.

I don't post often but I'm number 6, do you think that possibly there is no algothrim at all at he's just trying to make us all look stupid and/or give us something to do? :)

I would say no to the looking stupid part, it is not sound business practice.
Besides, i do ok in that area without inspiration.

Giving us something to do, is agreeable. And its sound business practice.

I have a feeling that the screts revealed may have to do with this. It was figured out, so he created a new one. Just for our amusement. I appreciate that. Hermit, on the other hand, is going to pull his hair out. But, he will likely solve that one as well.

Or the secrets has to do with the members list.
