To the NTs here: Have you taken the rdos aspie test, and/or the AQ thing, and if so, what did you score?

I retook the rdos one recently and scored thusly:

Your Aspie score: 106 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 93 of 200
You seem to have both Aspie and neurotypical traits

I'm a bit half and half then?

My AQ was 38.

Hi Moog,

Here is my score on the rdos quiz:

Your Aspie score: 78 of 200
Your neurotypical (non-autistic) score: 150 of 200
You are very likely neurotypical

This is something that confuses me. I did very well on the test, but I'm horrible at reading expressions in real life. I think that the time spent is part of it. I also find that there are a lot more distractions in real life.

Also I'm fairly faceblind but if i'm very careful about how i measure and characterize faces on the faceblindness test I can beat most NTs i know. Although i'm not really remembering a face, I'm remembering a set of facial measurements and that is kind of cheating, and does not work nearly as well in a real life scenario. If one of the measurements changes in people that I know it is like they are completely alien.

I don't think that the face blindness test is valid at all. I did well on the test by remembering the shapes of the heads, but that's useless in the real world. Their faces should have had the same shape, but different features.

Thanks very much for doing that Dave!

Seems like you've a few aspie traits!

Ok this was mainly meant to be a joke, but if you try the test it is almost universally true. I know they are doing it to try and show someone cautiously hiding emotion, it's just funny how physc tests always have strange rules to how the actors show emotion.

I think it's just how physc students are taught to see/measure emotion. It's good they don't have to live through that understanding, I don't think they would do very well.

Their famous faces test (link) was much more difficult. They show you cropped images of historical figures and celebrities, and you have to identify their name. After they show the name, you get an "i don't know this person" option.

Most welcome Moog. And thanks for recognizing that I have some traits, I'm glad someone besides me has picked up on that. I really like my traits, and some of them are very intense. Throughout my life I've never really related to my peers, though I've been able to fake it pretty good. Also, I relate to my son really well, who has an official diagnosis. Thanks also for asking for NT input, it really makes me feel welcome here :D

Do you remember we spoke about Facebook a few months ago? I kinda thought your reply about how used the site was pretty aspie, but I wouldn't diagnose you from it.

Thanks for the suggestion. I actually did about average on that test. I can learn faces. It just takes me a little while. I have to see someone a few times before I can remember their face. I don't really know if there is a term for that. I'm just a slow-face-learner, not face blind.

I haven't read it but you did post a little excerpt in another thread and Amazon was pretty generous with what they let me read without buying it. The excerpts that I did read seemed accurate. Honestly, I'm hoping more people on the spectrum read it. Maybe they will after you posted the other thread about it. I see many threads where people struggle to understand this or that NT behaviour. These threads often contain peoples' theories about the root of an NT behaviour and the theories are often just so incredibly wrong it's frustrating to read. I'm thinking, "no! no! that's not why at all". Generally Callista posts in these threads too and her theories are so much more accurate that she could have written this book too. I think it's a good book with accurate explanations. I hope more people read it.

I got what it says is average. Though, two of the faces that I didn't get, I recognized, but just could not think of the name. Another 2 that I did get right, it's because I googled it... I remembered enough to look up who it was, just not the name. Keanu Reeves was one of those. And there was one where I recognized the face, but it wasn't a name I'd ever known. Like, someone who was in a movie I saw, but not one of the main stars.

I was afraid it was going to be a lot of new current stars I wouldn't recognize. Glad it wasn't.

Taking it reminded me that I'm better with faces than I am with names.

I didn't do well on the faceblindness test. To may, all the faces look "bland" if you know what I mean. I don't find it that way with real people. I also didn't like that they showed 6 faces and wanted you to remember them. I can't remember many things at once. I don't know what very many celebrities look like, I just know their names so the famous faces test might not work either. I don't think I have faceblindness, but there are certain people who I find harder to recognize than others.

I would want to see my husband (NT) truly understand that I'm not 'trying' to be rude, I just can't get my head around being sorry for something that isn't logical that I should be.
