I remember someone I knew on another forum who had ADHD, and who would constantly object to things because "that's what NTs do." And I didn't see the point of not doing things just because NTs do them. If I were to be like that, there's very little I could do, except maybe stay in bed all day and give in to those occasional urges to bang my head.

And since I had people telling me over the past six months that I can't be autistic because I use idioms/I express empathy/I am aware of other people/I am just introverted and socially inept/I occasionally like to talk to people face to face/etc. I'm losing a lot of interest in the whole "NTs do this and autistic people do that mindset. Sometimes autistic people and NTs do the same things - sometimes even for the same reasons! It happens. It doesn't make anyone any less autistic, though.

For all those who are clueless about "social feedback loops" that demonstrate ones social positioning within the social hierarchy that underlies this phenomenon called 'popularity', please see the last couple of posts. They definitely exist.

What do you propose people do? If they post agreement with somebody else, they get accused of "making chirping sounds" just to iomprove their own popularity. If they post disagreement with somebody else, they get accused of bullying. If they agree with one poster frequently, they get accused of forming a clique. If they post comical reflections or pictures, they get accused of acting NT. What exactly would be an acceptible post? Something that had no connection to any of the other posts in the thread?

I've come to the conclusion that an acceptable post doesn't exist.

What gave you the impression I was positioned against it? The whole point of this thread that some didn't know of this thing called "popularity" and they weren't aware of the mechanisms underlying it, and I was providing the courteous service of pointing out these mechanisms in action so that those who didn't understand could understand it. I wasn't implying they were "bad" or "good", I was saying that they existed and pointed out their existence.

The fact that you're interpreting my 'neutral statements' as being 'antagonistic' just shows how NT you really are.

Now, children, the fact that everybody is ganging up on me is what we'd like to call a "negative social feedback" loop. It indicates this thing called "unpopularity" and is an expression of being widely disliked.

I can tell you what aspies don't do -- they don't come close to winning neurotypical popularity contests and they are, usually, not 'eagerly welcomed' amongst neurotypicals (Except for *some* of the most recent batch in the past decade whose over-diagnosing and corresponding high false positive rate has been diluting the original definition of an aspie.).

I can't tell if you're being bullied or not, or just getting a lot of disagreement, I suspect the latter but it's possible people are acting with malice.

My post, if it means anything, was more about addressing my own insecurities than anything else. Plus general fatigue with people telling me I'm not really autistic, or questioning it, or suggesting they have some kind of radar that could detect for sure either way. Which, I should add, has not happened here - except for one guy, who was being a jerk.

Disagreeing with what you have to say on this topic =/= disliked.

It merely means you have an unpopular opinion. This, right here, is exactly what I was referring to when i said an acceptable post doesn't exist.

Nobody is bullying.

An unpopular opinion is one that is widely disliked.

All posts are acceptable. That doesn't mean they aren't open to commentary nor criticism, however.

Someone's opinion not being liked does not automatically translate into the person being disliked. You seem incapable of making this distinction.

FTR, I like people I can disagree with because I get other perspectives.

. You seem incapable of recognizing capability.

For the record, I recognize that not liking someone's opinions is not exactly the same as not liking a person, but to imply they are completely separate is bull-hockey. Obviously, people dislike other people because they dislike their set of opinions -- for example, many a republican dislike many a democrat on a personal level, and that's not because they're sipping lattes and driving volvos.

There was no point going over my head as I never claimed any posts were "unacceptable". You know what they say about assuming.

Yeah... uh... unless the opinion is completely f****d up it's separate for me. One friend in particular comes to mind, and I disagree with him constantly. I really dislike his take on almost everything, but he's nice to me and understands me.

Good, we need more tolerant people like you in this world.

Yes... it makes one an ass. Does this mean you were indirectly calling me an ass?
