In the book Eye Contact by Cammie McGovern, a little boy with severe autism is the only witness to the murder of his friend, a girl with PDD. One of the people who helps the little boy communicate what happened is his tutor, an older boy. The book never says that the tutor has AS but he obviously does.

Quote:
I think the final episode of Daria (not the final movie) verifies she was diagnosed with AS when she was 6 years old and her parents never told her.

That episode was titled "Boxing Daria":

http://www.outpost-daria.com/ts_ep513.html

(begin flashback sequence)

(little Daria is talking to the school counsellor, with Helen and Jake sitting in the background; Helen has an '80s style hairdo, and Jake has a little more hair than he does now)

Doctor - Now, Daria... I want you to tell me what you see when you look at the picture. (holds up an inkblot)

Daria - What do you mean? That's not a picture.

Doctor - Well, not the kind of picture we're used to seeing. This picture lets you make up what it's about.

Daria - Then why don't I just draw my own picture?

Doctor - For instance... one little boy or girl might look at it and see a fire truck or a house. Another might see a herd of beautiful wild ponies running free across the plains.

Daria - It's just a black splotch.

Doctor - Daria, what's your favorite game to play at recess?

Daria - I don't like games. I like to read.

Doctor - Don't you enjoy playing with the other children?

Daria - Not really. They never understand what I'm talking about and then they make fun of me. I like to read.

(Helen and Jake exchange glances)

(in the car, on the ride home; Jake is driving, Helen is riding shotgun, and young Daria and Quinn are in the back seat)

Jake - I'm just saying, Daria. If you give the other boys and girls a chance, you might find someone you like. It takes all kinds.

Quinn - I like lots of kids! (starts bouncing up and down like she's on a sugar high)

Daria - They call me egghead.

Helen - Sweetie, it's a little hard for your father and me to keep taking time off from work to talk to the counselor. Why don't you meet us halfway and try talking to the other kids?

Daria - They don't say anything that interests me.

Quinn - I talk a lot to the other kids, and they talk back!

(the car pulls into the driveway of their home, a modest one-level ranch house)

Helen - Daria, how do you know they don't interest you?

Daria - I'm tired. (gets out of car)

Quinn - I'm not tired!

(later that night)

(little Daria is in bed, while Jake and Helen are arguing in another room)

Helen (offscreen) - Well, I don't know what to do. I'm at my wits' end.

Jake (offscreen) - Dammit, Helen, that's it! I go in there every day to face a psychotic boss, a job that makes me feel like a freakin' slave, then I have to come home and deal with this? How much am I supposed to take?

(Daria is now obviously frightened by what she hears)

Helen (O.S.) - Jake, this isn't about you. It's about her, having a little trouble fitting in.

Jake (O.S.) - She doesn't want to fit in, damn it! Why can't you admit that?!

Helen (O.S.) - Jake, she's a child, she doesn't know any better!

Jake (O.S.) - That's what she wants you to believe!

Helen (O.S.) - Where are you going?!

(the front door, then the car door slams, with little Daria wincing each time and pulling the covers up a little tighter; as the car starts up and pulls away, Daria gets out of bed, switches on the light, and crawls into a large, crayon-decorated refrigerator box and begins to read; the hardship reflected in her young face disappears almost immediately)

(end flashback sequence)

Hermione from Harry Potter - at least in the first movie - somewhat pedantic and rather knowledgeable.

Beavis, from Beavis and Butthead. He was more aloof than any other character in the series, rarely made eye contact, had a weird laugh, was easily manipulated, had obsessions(fire!), is fascinated with spinning objects(remember the episode where he zoned out staring at the circular saw spinning and chopped part of his own finger off with it!), had what amounted to two different vocal tones, had a high pain tolerance, would fare just fine if isolated from all humanity, rarely understood others, wouldn't even move oput of the way when something dangerous was about to happen to him, and sometimes displayed striking levels of intelligence spontaneously and was entirely lacking in intelligence otherwise. He's weird in a high functioning autistic way at times.

From Manga - Sunako from Wallflower - she hates people & socialising, and prefers to stay in her room watching horror movies with her "best friends" (anatomical dolls).

From British TV - Roy Cropper in Coronation Street; Luke in the Sarah Jane Adventures (Dr Who spin-off) who has some classic aspie lines e.g. "Was that another social mistake?"

People with Asperger's can LEARN to read people.... just because we don't do it instinctively doesn't mean we can't learn how. I've become quite good at it over the years under certain circumstances. For example, collecting past due payments on loans, you have to be able to "read" your customer to a certain extent. I was damned good at it until I became the manager, and got stuck with administrative crap 24/7. That doesn't extend to ALL situations... while I became good at reading players at a poker table (and being able to estimate odd didn't hurt), I'm crap at reading "women" for interpersonal purposes. I've lost out on more relationships in my life, than I've had, simply because I could NOT understand the woman was interested... House, being a doctor would be EXPECTED to read the patient... he's much less able with women on a personal level, from the episodes I've seen...

I can read people - I know it would be possible for someone with AS to do so. It's unlikely it would be their strongest trait as it is with House, but I know tht's only part of it. House can read EVERYBODY excellently, even women. He always picks apart women who are hitting on him for their weakness towards damaged people (in Cameron's case) etc. He breaks up with Stacy because he can see how their relationship is going to go...he's not deluded by emotions or confusion - he sees things even TOO clearly - preventing him from accepting affection because he sees the sometimes unsavory motivations behind it.

Calvin (of Calvin and Hobbes) was my childhood role model. That kid is awesome!

My adult role models, for better or worse, seem to all be along the lines of 1940's film noir private detectives: brooding, introverted, consumed by details, hard-drinking, and usually more likely to get slapped by a woman than laid. Think Deckard from Blade Runner (my all-time favorite film), Detective Bumstead from Dark City, William Lee in Naked Lunch (not actually a detective, but similar personality type), and Eddie Valiant in Who Framed Roger Rabbit.

If they weren't replicants, Zhora, Pris, Leon, and Roy would all be aspies. Blade Runner is also my favorite.

The character Robin Williams plays in Flubber. That guy missed his own wedding several times due to his obsessions with science!

Cool, another Blade Runner fan! I had the pleasure of seeing Blade Runner: The Final Cut on the big screen here in NYC a few weeks ago, and recently picked up the DVD box set. Very cool stuff.

I'm surprised this guy hasn't been mentioned yet:

Ooo, what about Johnny from The Outsiders by SE Hinton?

People thought he was slow, but really, once he got to a topic he liked, he just wanted to slow down and really absorb everything about it . . . just paraphrasing here.
