AS is a syndrome based entirely upon operative behavior and self-reported perception (which is also operative behavior.) A psychologist or psychiatrist is just a very experienced and informed observer of that behavior.

But, he or she is still entirely reliant on the patient's report of his or her own behavior, feelings, and family reports of life history. Therefore, the psychologist is generally just confirming a self-dx and is highly reliant on the reasons for it.

And, as others have pointed out, adults rarely have the opportunity or an overriding reason, for a diagnosis. For a child, of course, the dx helps in order to provide appropriate education and therapies.

Believe me, I wish I did not have AS (I wish that I didn't regularly and inadvertantly anger my wife and others) as surely as I wish that my two sons were not autistic. But, we are. We deal with it. I suggest that you try to as well.

Um.... Ok, well I'm gonna be Mexican because I have decided I would like to be mexican, despite my white skin and no knowledge of the Spanish language. Mexicans should be happy that I am willing to believe i am mexican. So now my opinions and thoughts can impact the way mexicans live, positively or negatively (most likely negatively since I don't REALLY understand what it's like to live as a mexican). What do I care, I only BELIEVE I am a mexican. I can make myself BELIEVE I risked my life crossing the border. And then I can imply the best way to make immigration easier for mexicans is to send them back to mexico for 10 yrs.

Do you see how this sounds? I don't mind if NTs or people with mental disorders post here, that's totally fine, not a problem. But they shouldn't claim to be something their not. If they think they might be Aspergian but aren't sure, they should make damn sure before they infiltrate an entire community or culture of people.

YEAH, I know how it sounds! STUPID! Why are you trying to sound stupid?

Frankly, if I DID speak with a mexican accent, look mexican, speak mexican spanish, have memories of mexico, etc... I might think I am mexican.

WOW, INFILTRATE! That's a really odd way of putting it.

BTW sending mexicans over to mexico DOES make it "easier"! Otherwise, they come here as undocumented ALIENS, and many will never even TRY to imigrate!

Is THAT your problem? You're an undocumented alien?

As for overstating "loner status", I guess you don't have too much trouble then. You have an AWFULLY big chip on your shoulder! You should do something about that before you poke a friends eye out.

I had pinpointed my son's diagnosis before he was diagnosed. Asperger's explained a whole lot about him and my other son. My husband and other son were also diagnosed after the first one was because they saw so much of the AS in themselves. I have also been told that I could have AS, except that I don't have problems "reading other people" and I am overly empathetic. However, I don't need a diagnosis of AS to tell me that I relate far better to a person with AS than to the rest of society. I feel if anyone is threatened by that it is their problem. I have been who I am for almost 40 years as has my husband. My children are who they are. The fact that they are diagnosed and I am not does not change ANYTHING about our personalities.

I am also not insensitive to NT loners, I can still relate to their situation. But they should just identify themselves as loners on here, and not aspergian. However I tend to think there are alot of people exagerating or pretending loner status.

No one's said that people shouldn't try to accurately put their status on their info page. But AS is a confusing thing, and I don't think anyone could come to a conclusion about it without getting a ton of info first. Wrong Planet has really helped me discover more about myself (and realize that I fit even more AS stuff than I realized, since I didn't understand what was meant by a lot of terms).

At any rate, I kind of doubt anyone's infiltrating us :D For some reason, NTs infiltrating AS people is sort of funny to me. I could see some kind of comedy sketch about that when they're "caught"...

Who? Why? I mean I'd hate it if it were happening (ie people just pretending), but...

Or, to put it another way.
Once you have done your research on the subject (which is why i originally joined these types forums), then it becomes quite clear if you are on the spectrum or not.
You do not need someone to tell you.
Conversely, once you have an understanding of the behaviour, then if you are still unsure or need to ask, then you are not.

Hey, some of us aren't very self confident, and like being told things for sure. And I'm not seeing this invasion...

Well it is for me. I want to have an official diagnosis. That's just how I am.

You need to read my post. There was no mention of invasion.
That's the sort of thing which makes me think you are not Aspergian.
Also wanting an official diagnosis.
It's not like a club you join when you get a dx of some so-called expert.

You don't need to be psychic.

You probably need to get out more though.
Although when you do; you probably realise that you still display the same mannerism according to diagnostic process.
You may feel that your social phobia and OCD symptoms increase or decrease, but do not have the confidence to not doubt yourself.

That's what you get for free.
No more, i have better things to do.
Like masturbate.
