i already have my license and i live in seattle which is in the state of washington

to get a learner's permit you must:

be at least 15
show proof of enrollment in driver training
pass a vision test

to get a restricted license you must:

complete driver training if under age 18
log 50 practice hours if under 18
be at least 16
have had permit for at least 6 months

to get full license you must have restricted license for one year or turn 18, whichever is sooner

if you are at least 18 you dont have to take drivers ed or go through the restricted phase

i got my g1 (learners permit, you can only drive between 5am and 12am, and only with someone in the passenger seat who's had their license for 4 years or more, and you can't drive on freeways) at 16, 4 months after my birthday. i got my g2 (you can drive anywhere, any time, but you can't have any alcohol in your system and you've got a lower tolerance for tickets before you lose your license) about 8 months later. you have to wait a year between your g1 and g2 unless you take driver's ed, in which case you can take it 8 months later. i still have my g2, but i'm going to get my g, full license, this year. i've got a year to get it before i have to start over.
