All of this is opinion, my opinion:

People with ASD very often have distinct facial features unique to the spectrum, all of which are "young" traits.
People with ASD tend to express less emotions, thus less wear on the facial skin.
There is likely a case to be made that people with ASD get less sun than the average NT.
People with ASD are likely avoidant of major stress factors in life.

Alternatively, "Aliens".

Interesting ideas, I just thought it was that I was an alien :D

At 59 people still knock 10-15 years off my age.

Not only am I getting carded, yesterday a security did not even ask me if I planned to drink to get the wristband, they asked everybody else if they planned to drink. It was actually kind of akward becouse I stood there and looked at her for a second waiting for the question, I had not planned to drink anyway though. So I must clearly pass for under 19, really if I changed back how my hair parts over my forehead a little I would look just like my 14-16 year old school photos, most of my old classmates could not pass for a teen anymore.

I don't think I look young for my age, but I'll ask someone. It'll be a while though. I don't expect to see anyone except for my partner until Wednesday.
And my partner won't know either.

That can't of been good for his teeth!!

I'm in my early 30s but everyone always seems very surprised when I tell them.

His teeth were lovely but he did have a bald head with unkempt hairy sides, reminiscent of a really old guy, but his actual face was youthful, smooth and fresh looking. seeing him look so healthy made me try his diet but it's very difficult to maintain.

Maybe a focus on comfortable clothing and not very fashion-oriented looks give a childish impression in many cases? - At least for girls...!

We may also give off a child like impression due to under developed social skills maybe? - That is probably most relevant for teenagers/adolescents.

I doubt there is any real physical difference.

I agree with you completely.

I was carded into my forties. So was my dad. My dad didn't have autism and it wasn't in his family. It was on my mothers side. I however got my young genes from my dad...

I'm not sure if this is an aspie myth or not, but I keep reading it everywhere. I'm told I look young for my age. I'm always assumed to be several years younger than my younger siblings and cousins, which is good or bad depending on the situation. My colleagues all guessed my age to be mid-20s, although I'm over the 30 mark. I put this down to not smoking, drinking or doing any of the fun stuff that happens when NTs socialise. I don't have kids, not married, don't drive, don't do most of the things that cause NTs stress. I've never been a fan of tanning and can't be bothered with any of the extreme fitness, diet or beauty routines that a lot of women seem to subject themselves to. I'm also not overweight or underweight, which seems to make a lot of people look older. I'm pretty boring in fact. I get up, go to work with computers all day (no phones or people), pay the few regular bills I have, don't get into debt (I don't even own a credit card), have a few hobbies I like and spend any other time with family. The hardest exercise I do is normal-paced walking, so my body doesn't go through much physical stress. I get the occasional cold, but otherwise don't have any major health issues aside from autism. I guess being a bit 'dull' works well for me!

Sorry to bump this old thread but this is new to me, and something of a revelation. I am 54, I look a least 10 years younger. People have always been amazed for years when I tell them how old I am. I did not realise this was an actual thing, I thought I just got lucky.

Someone told me they genuinely thought I was 27 the other day. I'm not sure why I seem younger.

I used to look quite young for my age. Since I turned 50, though, my looks have "caught up" :(

For one, many of us are single and haven't been bogged down with stress from marriage and kids. I'm single, no kids and can work out more and cook better meals for myself. I drink plenty of water. I only work a few days a week.

Mentally we are also younger and may have more youthful facial expressions.

My theories!

I look older, although people are often surprised I have 2 children. I never get asked for ID. I'm 24.

I am 40. People are always shocked to hear this. When they try to guess my age the range is between 23 and 32 with a median of 25.

I've always looked really young and I've never been able to pinpoint exactly what does it. I assume it's mostly my lack of makeup, my comfortable clothing, and the fact that I'm at a healthy weight. I'm not sure, though, because I feel like other women without makeup still don't look as young as I look.

I literally get mistaken for a teenager still. I took a plane a few weeks ago and got seated in the emergency exit row and the flight attendant actually asked if I was old enough to sit there. You only have to be 15. I also had concerned adults asking if I was flying by myself.

All of this is kind of ridiculous because I'm turning 26 this year. I'm told that I will appreciate it one day but right now it is annoying.
