I have a similar problem.
I hate some conservative ideas, particularly the ones which curtail my quest for self-actualisation, but the progressives are much worse, with their tendency to want to follow the collectivist narrative.
Individualism, not collectivism nor conformity, I say.
I'm a lot like you. I was surprised and flabbergasted at how so many people here on WP brought into the mainstream liberals' (US liberals, that is) anti-freedom, collectivist Covid lockdown narrative. Which felt very alienating! And coming from an aspie demographic that feels equally alienated from the mainstream society to boot.
From what I know, Australia's liberals are much worse. But not as bad the British liberals, like that loser Boris Johnson, who might as well be Boris Yeltsin. We both told them to **** [sex] off for the same reason: me in 1776, and you in 1986.
I was happy to join a conservative, pro-freedom group I'm with now. I quickly earned their trust---they like my dark humor and anti-government beliefs---I now attend most of their gatherings, all without masks or social distancing.
Even with all the freedoms I lost last year, I still love my country. I still always take off my hat (if wearing one) whenever the national anthem plays, and I always thank the past's heroes every year on July 4th and other holidays acknowledging America's history. Which I can't say for most leftists.
