eek... noisy that could be a real problem!

It's not very loud, and not a harsh sound. It's just the noise of hundreds of tiny metal rings clinking together, but it all blends together into a metallic swishy sound.

very expensive is a problem, like how much more expensive than ohhh the lead apron i was showing you guys at $120, thats not bad, and also protects you from radiation which EVERYONE gets... not many people have knife and sword issues.

You can see some pretty typical prices on Froogle. Some can be pretty cheap, but I don't know if I'd trust them.
But if the $120 lead vest is affordable to you, then some of the chain mail may be too. And if you don't mind wearing out your fingers, wire is cheap. You wind it around a metal dowel rod (wood compresses too much) to make a coil, and cut it into rings, which can be woven together.

problem is i dont like metallic clinking for some reason... dont mind little bits like if im handling money, but constantly from chain mail would probably get on my nerves. and chain mail is more of something you cant think of a good excuse for... lead apron i could just say "uhm... well... i kind of forgot to take it off when i was leaving for break... oh well..." not to mention chain mail would set off metal detectors like crazy ha ha!

Hmm, good points. I hadn't thought of metal detectors. When I get a chance, I'll record the sound of some of the mail I made.

Anyway, the pockets on the weighted blanket still sound like a good idea. They could be done on clothes as well. The problem is that heavy things tend not to be soft, and vice-versa. But you could make the pockets padded enough to compensate.

thats another advantage to lead apron is a lot of the newer ones they are using an ultra soft lead that i have experienced at my dentists office with x-rays early this year... its so soft its hard to describe. its nothing like the old ones and yet it seems heavier!! and lead does not set off metal detectors!! ! which means id be able to fly and fall asleep on the plane! that would be kind of weird though... but who cares what random people think... besides i could say im headed for a huge X-Ray machine expo...

I've worn those a couple times. I wasn't sure at the time if it was lead or not because it was so soft. I actually liked the feel of those, but not the harder ones. They're a little heavy for me, though.

Hmm, that would be a good thing. What other things are heavy but won't set off metal detectors? Aluminum is pretty light by comparison. There's always sand, as was mentioned before. Lead is probably fine, but you know I'm just too paranoid to wear it myself.

Is it like a convention where everybody dresses up? :D

ive worn them lots of times in my life... especially in the last year with this neuromuscular disease thats messing up my spine... X-Rays always been one of my favorite medical tests. i dont really like the harder ones either, lucky for me none of the places i go to have the older ones anymore, the new ones are so soft and also everywhere i go they even have a thingie on your neck too, i love the pressure there too. i personally like the weight its very very heavy which i love! another thing i like is how it holds heat...

Well... http://www.weightedblanket.net i hear those dont contain metal... and i hear they can make em up to 50 pounds. few of my friends have em and they say "website is crap... product is great!" aluminum=BEEP BEEP BEEP, its still metal! sand contains trace elements of metals and would pool in places. it is also not possible to meld it into the fabric like http://www.weightedblanket.net does in their process.

http://rsna2007.rsna.org/rsna2007/V2007 ... _navID=262 yeah its a huge radiology convention... i dont think a lot of the people there wear their lead... but i sure would... and id have a perfect excuse for it "what this is a radiology convention!"

I used to have chest x-rays all the time because of athsma, and other respiratory problems. Once that was generally figured out and treatment started, I didn't need x-rays all the time, which is okay because I didn't miss the really stiff aprons they had, or for that matter being bombarded with radiation.

Hmm, they use polypellets. That's probably the best material suggested yet.[/quote]

Lead is metal too! But small amounts of aluminum probably won't be a problem, similar to how piercing don't usually set off alarms.

Their polypellets are apparently just stuffed into pockets in the blankets. You could do the same with sand, but they make a valid point about it: silica crystals are bad for your lungs. They have sharp edges and are small enough to float in the air. The small ones will be able to escape through the holes in the fabric. So sand is out.

They may not be wearing lead, but it couldn't look too much out of place there. :)

that's pretty good!! hehe, sleeping at work.. sounds like something i'd do.. actually, i'm going to be an animator, so i probaby will sleep at work sometimes.. i've seen behind the scenes vids where the animators talk and they said that sometimes have couches or beds for when the animators are just too tired to animate anymore and need to crash for a couple hours.. lol.
yeah, some people would find it wierd to like stuff like lead aprons.. lol. NT's.. can't live with them... and, yet.. they're everywhere. lol...

meh, animation does not really interest me that much, and your missing a pretty big perk to the job... two words... lead... apron... :P besides who needs a couch or bed when you got yourself a good ol x-ray table! (the aprons i showed to all the way around you so the table wouldnt seem hard cuz they use very soft led for aprons now adays) my dentist just got his last year (a major upgrade from his old one from what, 1994 or something!) seems heavier, and much much softer definitely! his new one even has a thingie that goes around your neck too like all newer ones do, the soft heavy pressure on my neck is soooo nice i love it!

grrr NT's i only like the NT's who like the sensations i like otherwise forget it! NT's and me do NOT mix very well! it would be very funny to find out if it would be just an autie/aspie fashion trend ;) would make it seem a lot cooler and exclusive actually ;) or if it became a global trend across auties/aspies and NT's.

lol, that's true.. but animation's something i've been interested in ever since i can remember, so i wouldn't give it up... even for lead aprons. lol, i think i'd need an extra big one in order for it to go all the way around me.. i'm kinda fat.. XD heavier + softer is most definately an upgrade.. ^w^ i don't know if i'd like it around my neck.. i'm kinda weird that way.. i love ties around my neck, and my pet snake around my neck, but i absolutely can't stand turtle necks... so, who knows... hmm.. i think i'd like it if the lead apron was heated or something.. that would feel good.. the only thing better than pressure is warm pressure.

i can't say too much against NT's.. after all, most of my friends are NT's. actually, i don't know anyone on the spectrum IRL... anyways, not that i know of... :? hmm... it would be easier to diagnose spectrum disorders if it was only a trend on the spectrum.. cause then if people thought it was kool, they must be on the spectrum.. but.. yeah.. we'd be like.. an elite club.. or.. like.. some secret organization.. with secret nonverbal passwords!! or.. something like that.. XD but.. who knows... NT's might join the band wagon just because they see other people doing it.. not because they particularly like the fashion. after all.. most NT's are lemmings, anyways.. stupid sheeple.. lol...

ahh yes they make them in all kinds of sizes, i know a few fat radiologists in my area ha ha ha... heavier and softer is DEFINITELY a huge upgrade, its so soft its almost like liquid. i like all kinds of pressure on my neck (deep pressure only!) i like turtle necks with a nice tight neck on it. dont need it heated because they definitely hold your heat :D there is nothing better than warm deep pressure... which brings me to something ive thought about, id probably love it if i found a girlfriend who would lay on top of me he he... i also like warm sticky sweaty hugs for some reason, i love those actually!

i dont have much against NT's i dont have much friends PERIOD :( aside from online i have 2 friends who see me physically and they seldom see me anymore...

oooh.. i love warm liquid.. that's why i love taking hot showers.. it's sooooo soothing!! yeah.. i guess it really wouldn't need heated. hmm.. i only like deep pressure in certain ways.. i like it mostly on my stomach.. but.. it's like i don't like massages.. cause the deep pressure hurts.. course that could just be from people jabbing with their fingers too much.. but i donno.. i know i like the pressure on my stomach. my sister use to use my stomach as a pillow and it was really nice.. i suppose that's along those same lines.. i bet that would feel nice. actually, i'd probably be more likely to like to lay on top of someone.. XD but i couldn't really.. i'd squash them.. XD lol... i don't think i've ever had a sticky sweaty hug... my mom's the only one other than me that ever works up a sweat around here, and she hates to be touched when she's sweaty.. lol. but i don't know if i'd like it.. i don't like being sweaty.. so.. i don't think i would. :|

aww, that's a shame you don't have many offline friends... :( you seem like a really kool guy.

I love being in water. I don’t know why, I just do.

I love the feeling of my faux fur and suede blanket I have on my bed, it’s comfy and warm, but I like being snuggle under my blankets anyway. It’s a wonder I get out of bed everyday.

I love velvet; I have two velvet lap blankets I keep around in case I feel a bit chilly. I’m a tad bit addicted to velvet.

I like being in small confined areas, like the corner of room where my computer is., or in a comfy, small car. I love small spaces, because I feel safe.

I have a habit of wanting to touch anything that looks soft and warm. If I spot a blanket or article of clothing that meets those criteria, I feel like I have to touch it.

the only people i have close physical contact with now is my parents and my sister (when she visits.. she got married and moved away last year.. V_V) my family doesn't like hugging me, though.. cause i tend to cling. so i'm not given physical contact willingly very often. lol, i wouldn't mind that too much as long as i had nowhere i absolutely had to be (if it was up to me, i'd never have to be anywhere.. lol. a world without deadlines would be bliss.. :D )

i love being in warm/hot water but i cant stand cold water... has to be 98.6 or above and below 120 degrees fahrenehit

i cant stand fur, faux fur, any fur unless its extremely dense because the sparse furs are too tickley for me...

i love velvet too, i wish i had some of my own... i also love neoprene and other soft silky fabrics... especially neoprene because it hugs you all over... i wish my whole wardrobe were neoprene.

i like small areas too, probably why i like getting MRI's ha ha... the noise doesent put me to sleep but allows me to think so fast its like a supercomputer running in my brain at that point.

i also have a habit of touching anything thats soft and warm or vice versa... and if its somethign someone is wearing and i know that person i ask for a tight hug!

When in doubt, ask an autistic. Chances are, they're obsessed with what you need to know.
