I've been to autscape before ( to all of them). I'll try and write a bit about it, but i am finding this thread overwhelming so please don't ask me lots of questions!

We'd all wanted to have some sort of european autism event, it just took until 2005 to actually happen.

People there are generally high functioning to very high functioning. I think it's true to say that the organisers would like to have more of a fair spread of functioning levels, but i don't think anyone knows how to do it, and it might require funding. so for now theres a strong highly-functioning bias.

If you enjoy academic conferences, or religious retreats, you'll like autscape. or if you are the sort of person who finds there own way to enjoy things and makes their own holiday, its good for that.

Thanks for posting that. :)

It helps to get a more "inside" perspective.

Diva, thanks a million for sharing ! !! Sounds just like my thing. I'm looking forward to it, if I still have a job by then. The situation here is so horrible that I can't make plans for 6 months from now. But this is something I very much want to do.

Just one question, please: is there any mention of Asperger's in the convention activities at all? We could ask to have some special session, if not...

Could you maybe find someone over-18, ( by asking on WP, or contacting Autscape ), who lives near you and wants to go, who would act as your "adult "?

The thing is that in the UK there are loads of groups which already exist for lower functioning people. Though I bet if a couple of the organisers went around personally to some of the groups then they would be able to persuade lower functioning people to go.

However my money is on the place being set up by Aspies who have come up with an idea of what LFA people need without really consulting them.

Speak for yourself, but please don't mislead people into believing you are representing anyone other than yourself.

Just a couple of points:

-I agree with those that say that the best thing would be to meet up somewhere with lots of interesting things to do would probably be better than listening to conferences on AS.
-Please could it be somewhere with good airport links? British trains are overpriced rubbish, so for those of us living here it would make it a lot harder if there aren't good air links.

Greentea, if you do go to London for several days as you mention somewhere, maybe there could be another meeting(s) in London, those of us in England could take a day trip to London and meet there with you

of course, I was just kidding KenG all the time, but he obviously took offense without checking who the poster was, because he knows me and he's invited me to our city Autism meet-ups a couple times in the past. I guess these are bad times for this kind of joke, so I apologize.

We have meet-ups here every 2 months, but I don't go because NTs are invited and I'm not out of the closet and it's a tiny community we live in. But I'll be happy to meet other Israeli Aspies at Autscape in London.

2ukenkerl, will you be participating?

I can guide you myself since I spend a lot of time out in the woods, and around 75% of swedens population speaks good english.

Sounds like an interesting idea. More details would be interesting to hear :)

Camping in Sweden is the easiest (and cheapest) vaccation there is. ^^
If you are a dare devil all you really need is a rod, a knife and a (watertight) sleepingbag.
And you can allways deside how much money you want to spend on food (and drink). ;)

You can have a nice time out there without spending more than 5-10€ on food, less the more people that comes, the most expencive part would be the trip here. Though some equipment (tent and sleepingbag) might bee good to get before you come. :D

You can put up a tent prakticly anywhere exept someones immediate property, you are allowed to pick berrys (don't touch the mushrooms, we have some really nasty ones) and fish in allmost any lake or river for free. (There are some exeptions.) Allmost all water in the lakes and rivers are fit to drink too. :D
And we often have very sunny summers. ;)

I would not recomend a longer stay than a weekend for people that haven't done this things before. ;)

Of course, people who are afraid of walking and bugs should choose something else. 8)

My guidingskills would depend on where we'd be going.

I would LOVE to, but there are too many unknowns, and I probably wouldn't get much done anyway. It is ironic, but I KNOW how I am. Some of you are even WORSE! That means I may not even come within 10 feet of you, let alone learn who you are. It is a shame, but I STILL have too much to consider.

How about a holiday in Sweden for those less camping inclined (I doubt I will be able to do it healthwise unfortunately)
