Morgana, from your profile I see you're interested in psychology and spirituality - while very much a layman in them, these are subjects I'm continually fascinated by - so that's a good start!

And dancing - hmm...you could say I'm the living incarnation of the "Anti-Dancer" 8O Not that I'm opposed to dancers - more that dancing seems opposed to me. I listen to and even play in bands that some really rhythmic, dance music, yet never dance myself. If anybody ever comments on it, my answer is that "I dance in my head, but not my body", which is how it feels.

As you're a professional dancer, I bet you get fed up of people asking you for tips on how to make some cool moves!! !

<EDIT> Reserved!! ! Thursday - Tuesday. Excitement level has risen, tomorrow I shall book the time off work and the whole thing has become more real.

Hey, great! I´m sure we´ll find things to talk about. I´m looking forward to it.

And if it makes you feel any better...I had to work HARD to become a dancer. I started out...well...pretty bad, as a kid. So this is another thing that I never admit in real life- only on Wrong Planet- but my parents gave me ballet lessons originally to help with some problems I was having: (spatial orientation problems, perception difficulties, coordination problems and lack of body awareness; for instance, as an 8 year old if someone asked me to touch my knees, I wasn´t really sure where they were). I don´t think my parents ever expected that it would become my "special interest" and that I would become a dancer! In fact, I remember quite a few people having that "talk" with me, that I should think about settling for something more "realistic". (Ha!)

It will be too difficult for me to bring any of my musical instruments with me this time.
I hope to perform at our large autistic festivals, when they become a reality.

Yes, guitars are too large and don't fold up 8) Harmonica is possible, though. And I have several hand percussion instruments.

KenG, what style do you play? Do you have anything up on the web? I know a few Peter Hammill tunes - "Time For A Change" being my favourite to play. I've just posted my first ever musical piece on Youtube (the link is in the Musicians/Artists etc thread) - there should be several more going up soon of both of my current bands and my solo flamenco fumblings.

Morgana, that's amazing about the background to you becoming a dancer. A struggle against the odds! The lack of coordination is very typical of AS.

BTW Flights booked now!! ! According to the seat plan, there's currently about 3/4 of the seats left for both flights. So for Lotusblossom, there isn't an urgent need to book. Obviously, that will change as time goes by. As the seat plan is before you actually commit to paying, it's possible to keep on eye on the situation.

Congratulations! :D 8)

I wish I had had the conviction to push for going to Art College instead of university when my parents said I should/must do that "first", that I could always do art "later". I never did pursue art in a way that could earn me a living, and university was an expensive way, ( financially, mentally and physically ), of getting pissed, stoned, and laid for 4 years.

I really envy you having a special interest as a job. I love dancing, ( mainly when pissed and/or stoned  though I haven't been either for a long time now ), but am generally hopeless at physical co-ordination; need to think hard and move slowly/carefully to do some things. Even climbing over a stile takes thought!

I have rarely seen live dance performances, but those I have seen I was very moved by.

Yes, it is not bad at all. I'd love to hear some more.

I mostly play my own Afro-Latin arrangements of Jazz standards, but I havn't recorded any of them. I will put some of my older recordings, in various styles, on the web within the next few days.

There is Autreat, in Pennsylvania, in June: http://www.autreat.com/aut09.html
It is not specifically for WP, but WP members attend it every year.
Last year, WP's owner, Alex Plank, came to Autreat and gave a presentation on the subject of "Autistic Social Networking - How Autistics are Increasingly Using the Internet to Communicate in New Ways".
I think Alex is coming to Autreat this year as well.

That's good to know, and very useful too. :D I didn't know that you could see availability like that.

I just noticed that Eurolines is currently offering round trips between Barcelona and Marseille or Toulouse, among other places, for between 13€ and 19€, for travel until September. :)

Technically lots of mistakes, the strings are a year old, the reverb is horrible etc etc. But I am pleased I got some feel in there. After all, we Aspies don't feel anything, do we? :) :P Or maybe there is no feel and my inability to know this is deluding me. Solo guitar is so raw and naked, you really have to be a LOT better than me to pull it off.

Photos are just holiday snaps. Ironically, a colleague in my band said after watching it: "really good photos, where did you get them from?" :x

I want to put some faster songs up next. Just got to learn to play them properly

Do you play solo or in a band? I'd love to hear your recordings. Coincidentally(?) , I play in a Latin-ish band a the moment! We mix in a bit of funk/flamenco, too. I'm fascinated by latin rhythms, I'm always fighting this internal battle between wanting to give up guitar and do more percussion.

I must fight the urge to become the 'music bore' when we meet! :) :P

I will most likely come to this meeting ! :)
It will be easy for me to come by car, because I live in the South-East of France. (I'm a French Aspie :P )
So, If I understood everything well, it's going to happen in July or August. Can you give me a precise date (or just end of august, beginning of July etc.)
:D
And what did you choose for the place of meeting between the different cities ?
I hope I will get the answer to these questions !
(Sorry, I didn't search for that information by myself later in the topic, because I'm a bit on a hurry :) , so if you don't mind PM me or just reply to me in the topic...)

I am reposting this, for the third time, ( minus the flight info ), this time from page 9, for anyone newly interested:

The WP meet-up in central S. France, here are the details:

The meet-up is in Avignon the weekend from Friday 29 May to Monday 1 June, but people are obviously free to come earlier or stay later, or both! ( One person will definitely be there from Wednesday, and two others from Thursday )

We will be staying at the Etap Hotel in the centre of Avignon, ( but there are also three campsites in Avignon for people on smaller budgets/who prefer a tent ). All rooms are en-suite, modern, basic but clean, and cost 44€ per room/night for one person, ( 53€ per room/night for two people sharing a room ). The hotel website is at:

http://www.etaphotel.com/

Click on the small UK/USA flag in the top right hand corner of the page and you will get the english version. There is a booking window in the top middle of the page. Tap "avignon centre" into the little window. Reservations are by credit card. If you haven't got one then write directly to the hotel at the address on the hotel info page.

Details of some cheap flights from the UK are on page 9.

There are probably seven people definitely coming, another 10 thinking about it, ( according to the poll ), and anyone else interested is very welcome. :D I am looking forward to it immensely.
:sunny:
