I have no idea whether I'm right brained or left brained, all I do know is that I'm left handed and left footed (for playing football (soccer to the americans))

Left, right and centre? topic

I am not sure about anyone else here, but I go through times when I am more left brained than right brained, and then the opposite happens. right now I am more on the right, but when this changes I get back my language ability and then I can write creatively. :?

Danielismyname has posted this link or something like it before i believe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lateralization_of_brain_function
This is from wikipedia and just lists the basic functions of each hemisphere.

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=16577336
Shows that emotion is mainly right-sided

Shows that the d1 dopamine receptor is implicated in autism

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerebral_hemisphere
Wikipedia again, i have no shame! States there are higher levels of norepinephrine in the right hemisphere and higher levels of dopamine in the left.

Anyway those links support the generalisations i made assuming we are only looking at a right-deficit/left-deficit grouping of autism. Here's two more links...

http://www.psychosomaticmedicine.org/cgi/content/full/61/5/651#SEC1
States that serotonin hyperactivity has been found in 1/3 of the autistic population (well their sample anyway). Serotonin is generally thought to affect mood and emotion, so it could partially explain the difference shown between hfa and aspergers with regards to emotional-affect and empathy. Might even suggest that serotonin re-uptake inhibitors shouldn't be used for a subgroup within the autistic population.

http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=18263273
And lastly this states how glutamate is implicated in autism, glutamate is the most abundant neurotransmitter and is found in both hemispheres.

I believe that you don't need to have a dysregulation of everything mentioned to have autism, and that dysregulation of just one system can cause autism. I think the various causes of autism account for the variable severity observed. I don't get my information from any website specifically or specifically target autism. I just tend to read a lot about genetic and neurological disorders and autism happens to mentioned regularly.

That one's for generic ASD. I don't think they distinguish between AS and HFA.
