I will be honest these communities, at least the ones I have been in have been pretty cool. It certianly helps if you are an artist, diy crafter, or musician. I mean the one thing I noticed is I could talk hours about something like delay pedals, and folks will actually be interested. Or the sarah records label. Maybe thats because some of us are obsessed with things like music, like art, like film, etc...that exposes us to communities. I have met alot of people because my obsessions were with music and indie music movements. I got to be social because I went to so many shows alone, that I somehow magically I became comfortable in the environment and began to talk to folks. It was the only place I found people were okay with me being a bit weird, and found me interesting rather than annoying.

I am in a bit of a conundrum here.

I have interests that are identical to artsy hipsters. On the other hand, I am a Christian and vote Republican.

This puts me in a situation where I have to sacrifice one or the other to make friends,

I understand where you're coming from, Tim. My interest in anime, particularly certain characters and themes, puts me at odds with my religious and political beliefs as a Catholic Conservative. If I try to mingle with the anime-lovers, most of them aren't Christian. If I try to mingle with fellow Catholics, I'm scared of bringing up my special interests for fear that I'll be called a heretic or something.

Except when said groups start to hurt those with the diagnosis. Protecting malingerers who try to assume the label for personal expediency is reprehensible.

lol as a bunch of them are neurotypicals in their socializing and whatnot. OTOH that's with fellow artsy people IIRC. Some are neurodiverse, but the feeling I get from them is they're neurotypical or at least social as hell...

lol @ people dissing hipsters

reminds me of Malcolm X attacking "white liberals"
Or bohemians attacking yuppies.

There is a christian anime forum I am aware of that is a decent size. I know of this because 420chan and 711chan /i/ tried raiding it several times. It failed both times due to white knights I think.

go into the "liberal" and "upbeat" and "cosmopolitan" sections of any medium-large city in the western world. There are similar things happening in say, Brazil and Mexico's larger cities.

The whole is one big idea market, where people 'Cop an Image", in that context, what sells is a vote.

So they are voting arts and autism, fine, beats torchlight rallies and invading Poland.

Public view, Autism is taken as not buying into the common ideas, a vote of other, or none of the above.

Dxed, 1%, almost, Half Aspies, 10%, which is enough to have a social influance.

We are cool, I always knew, so we got groupies!

Maybe we can pick up a few bucks giving lessons?

WP is giving it away, free tests and all.

All billionairs, Nobel Prize winners, and Inventors are Autistic, spread it around.

There is nothing in the rules that makes that exception, Ignis - make a habit of attacking others is a way to find oneself first warned, then banned. This is not a platform for such abuses - regardless of justification - and as said before... if that is your desire, seek it elsewhere.

I think I maybe shouldn't of used the term....Arty Farty

Some-one else mentioned EMO ... don't know too much about that trend.

What I was hoping to discuss was the opinion concerning the self righteous that hi-jack "trends" (which we must admit Autism is becoming) and which they re-apply them. (eg. so called accredited Autism organisations that are making more a a buck than actually doing any good)

....maybe could discuss the "re-applying",
eg. Autism as a state rather than condition?

---or about those that re-apply something like Autism as a business venture.

Those who seek to capitalize or commercialize the condition, taking advantage of the increased public awareness and effect realized by those affected as well as those whose symptoms may overlap but are misdiagnosed? That sounds like a more interesting subject to me, or have I misunderstood your post?

hey all ;)

they are extremely annoying, but with all social groups, doesn't apply to all of them! I hate the hippies who think they know everything about the environment, but don't. Thats's just from a chemist / traditional socialist's point a view <---me!
I also hate people who act/ dress like that to deliberately be "alternative", seems a bit wierd if you ask me!

Oopsie! Some of my comments may have been a bit harsh. No tearing meant. Bohemians are great, it just makes me upset to hear that people will affect ASD for self serving reasons like a fad, if they are. I've actually known people to do it about depression or bisexuality.

It makes me worry that a glut of self-diagnosis might make it harder for people struggling with ASD to get a professional diagnosis, or people will be less tolerant if it starts to get seen as a put on. I for one had no trouble with diagnosis, but people that didn't know about autism would think I was being naughty or silly when I wouldn't like scratchy clothes/loud noise or had a meltdown. So that's what I don't like, especially when I've had a day where it's been difficult to cope.
