I rarelly ever sit down to do work without having had some sort of caffeine. I find that it helps me focus more and without it I'm just completely scatty with my thoughts rushing all over the place.

What are other ADDers and AS peeps expirence with this 'wonder drug'?

The old medicine, coffee - caffeine compounds, do work a little (not a cure) for a few of those with ADHD (not all of those with ADHD) and the coffee - caffeine compounds work better than Ritalin (not a cure).

http://www.rsna.org/rsna/media/pr2005/Coffee.cfm (Short-term memory)(not a cure)
http://coffeescience.org/alert (Mental alertness)(not a cure)

The chemist who isolated caffeine was awarded the Nobel Prize over a hundred years ago since caffeine is known to be an important ingredient.

It is no mystery why there is a coffee aisle at the supermarket, a tea aisle, a soft drinks aisle, and an energy drink aisle and the products contain caffeine.

There is a How To book (1981) written about ADHD Inattentive by C. Thomas Wild which reports that coffee - FDA approved caffeine compounds can surprisingly and temporarily reduce some ADHD symptoms (not a cure) a little for a number of hours (like 4 hours). FDA approved medicines discussed in the book include Tirend, NoDoz, Ritalin, Bonine, Dilantin, and so on.

By the way, there's also a book written about the epilepsy medicine, Dilantin, by Jack Dreyfus too which is another account by a person who found a FDA approved medicine helpful (not a cure)(in Jack Dreyfus's case for epilepsy).

So, coffee - caffeine compounds (like FDA approved alertness aids such as Tirend, NoDoz, Awake, Stay Awake, Vivarin, and so on - often containing 100 mg - caffeine) can help (not a cure) a few of those with ADHD (not everyone with ADHD).

Coffee - caffeine compounds - are not for everyone at all but they do work a little for some (not a cure).

I don't think it is the caffeine. I've compared results from a starbucks smoothie with 1 espresso shot, to a 12 oz can of red bull. I actually find the glucose sugar is what changes my mood and thinking clarity. If not being the sole catalyst for it, greatly enhances the caffeine or other ingredients' ability to make a difference.

As compared to something that is not high fructose corn syrup (what I like to get is Jones' Soda), just for the brain sugar - there is some enhancement but not as profoundly "wonder drug" as the red bull formulation of supplements, for me.

With the coffee based, I find it usually impacts my metabolism and I am not productive because I have to go pee very rapidly.

Caffeine quiets my brain and can put me to sleep depending on the amount I ingest.

Unless it's an energy drink. Then I get shaky.

Now that I think about it, my social anxiety's been higher since I stopped drinking soda...

... I hope that's not a correlation.
