I collect pens and pencils. They are so fascinating. :D An advantage of collecting pens and pencils is the fact that it will take me awhile to run out of something to write with.

I have a compulsion to collect and list girls' names ending in a, boys' names ending in "ek", and 5-letter names of boys ands 5-letter names of girls. It's getting in the way of my life. I collect any name that falls under those categories that's called a first name or nickname either in real life or in a published work of any sort, and/or that is someone's name or nickname in real life or in some published work.

Last year I did this a lot. I had literally books full of boys and girls names in some sort of alphabetical order. It didn't get in the way of my life though, I guess it wasn't that compulsive but just something I did when I was bored.

I find it hard to get rid of sci-fi books, even ones I know I won't read again. I'm going to get rid of other old books, to make room for our growing sci-fi collection. (my husband buys a lot of the sci-fi too)

I also collect CDs even though it would be cheaper and more convenient just to download music, it all goes on my iPod anyway.

I inherited some coins and stamps from my grandfather, who used to obsessively collect both. I just can't seem to get interested in them yet though, maybe if I ever live long enough to retire I'll enjoy them.
