I just got my diagnosis this spring, so I know what you mean about it being validating. It made it more real for me, because even though I KNEW, I still can slip into doubt/denial sometimes. I'm glad you got your diagnosis.
It's not so much for my doubts, which dwindled down to none as time went on, but rather for those around me who can't accept a self-analysis if it isn't validated by a professional. Plus, now with an official diagnosis, I can apply for services if needed. Right now, I'm gainfully employed, but with the recession trimming jobs every day, I never know when I may be forced back into the market. Vocational Rehab services could help with additional schooling (even though I have a B.A., it's pretty worthless) and job placement.

Ok, you twisted my arm. I'm going to try again (sigh).
They say that banging your head on the wall is helpful because it feels good when you stop.
I'll let you all know when I get to the good part.
I'm also concerned about my 18-year-old son. He's so clueless.
I wouldn't want to put him through all this diagnosis crap for nothing,
but if I ever find a shrink who's worth anything, I'll drag him along for the ride.
I keep flashing back to the time he and I got stuck in the under-toe.
I know how to handle it for myself, but I couldn't carry him.
I eventually got over the shame of needing to call the lifeguard (me, of all people).
But for life in general, there is no lifeguard. Either you muddle through, or you don't.
