I've been told that a few times, and most of the times I like it when I get out of my shell. Lately, I've been telling myself to expand my horizons a lot more, so a little self-discipline is involved

Of course, people have claimed they wanted to get me out of my shell but it never works and they all eventually give up.

I open my shell if I am approached. My philosophy does not permit me to refuse others without knowing them first. So, I wasn't explicitly told that recently. But my old teacher in Russia told me that I'm "closed up and doesn't want to talk to other students". I've also been labeled arrogant a lot. I guess there's truth in that. I'm rather judgemental.

Popular? Only by accident. Usually had something to do with my "straightforwardness" and "peculiar way of expressing yourself". Or maybe they were making fun of me. I can never tell. Nor do I care.

All the advice is the same thing with everything. When a person is depressed (like real depression) they tell them to cheer up. On the other scale, if you tell them person A has NPD and the dangers of that condition, they dismiss it. So a depressed person is some loser who can't get a grip on himself while the NPD is this amazing guy.

People see only what they want to see, really.

I have been told that in the past. But my shell is comfortable and well insulated, so I think I'll stay right here.

I think it means to be more social or become comfortable with sharing things about yourself to other people. I was like that for a time.

I used to get told it a lot. Since I finished school, I'm in far fewer situations where I'm expected to socialise, so my lack of talking doesn't bother people as much these days.

Yes, I've been told quite a few times that I should get out of my shell, but I really don't mind living in a world that I have all to myself.

I also get told alot, "Smile, its not so bad."

Oh boy, this one's the worst. Some days I swear I can't turn a corner or walk past someone without them saying something along these lines. I can laugh it off the first few times, but after hearing it 5 times or more in the same day, I want to punch them in the face.

People always tell me to get out of my 'shell' and/or my 'box'. I guess it's just because I don't go out a lot.
