For years and years, yes. One summer while working at a summer camp, I realized it as I walked my three-plus miles each day... and started looking around. It's something that I have to work at, but it isn't impossible to move my gaze upwards.

Whenever I am ever waling around outside I always look at the floor, to be honest I have never actually thought about it before.

Stepping carefully topic

I also love looking at the sky, and I often wish I could walk on clouds, though i know they are not as soft as they appear!

The patterns on grass, dirt and roads are just too tempting to ignore.

a couple of years ago I stared at my feet because I had trouble walking and had to see where my feet were going. I like looking up better, at the ceiling now.

I do the same, and always have. Its not something I do consciously; its more like, if there isn’t anything particularly interesting in the environment, my mind naturally goes down its own path, and my eyes fix on the ground so I can space out while not tripping over anything.

Another thing I used to do as a child was hold my head in my hands when I was tired and sort of block the world out. People would ask me if I was ok, I suppose because it looked like I was in tears.

I do sometimes, but I used to walk like that all the time. I'd often be told to look up, now I look at the sky and trees/buildings more when I'm walking.

I've always done that... and have also found stuff by doing so :)

Don't know exactly why I do it, but I like to think it helps keep me from tripping over things and/or stubbing my toes (though I still manage to do it anyway)...it also helps a little bit to keep the blinding sun out of my eyes...though in the winter, it reflects off the snow and there's prettymuch no safe haven at all =/

Oh yes. I was always getting told off about it as a kid, but I still do it.

I also pick things up. My purse is usually full of cool but totally useless bits and pieces.

I shoegaze, partly because I cant stand eye contact, and partly because the sky blinds me.

I often look at the ground, diagonally down, while I walk. I guess I feel more comfortable sort of looking where I´m going. Or, I "zone out" while doing it.

I do that alot, mostly because I get afraid of tripping over something, but now that it's been pointed out to me I try to look ahead more.

I walked home today and observed my behavior. I usually look down, unless I have a reason to look up, such as watching for cars. When I walk on level ground, my gaze is fixed at about 15 ft in front of me. When I walk on uneven ground, I scan up and down with my eyes from immediately in front of me to 15 ft. I think I have prevented many ankle and other injuries this way by being able to assess the terrain immediately in front of me and adjusting accordingly.

And, yes, my mother did tell me to look up when I was walking when I was growing up.
