When I was a kid I used to look at people my age and I would think they were aliens. I think it was a result of feeling kind of dissasociated. A lot of times I feel like people don't exist or to me they don't, not in my mind, but I've never actually believed that they don't exist. I've probably speculated it before...it's called over-thinking or hyperfocus.

Up until recently I thought everyone had the same thoughts...like the world was a big brain. I think when I became a teenager, I was trying to understand people and I had my theories...but they weren't really correct. I have better understanding now but there is still a lot to learn.

I used to think I was an alien too... or maybe a changeling. I'm far more prone to thinking that I'm the unreal one, than the other way round, but on the London Underground, it's so hard to not feel that you're surrounded by the living dead. In crowds, for example, public transport, shopping malls, sports stadia, etc... I tend to see the seething crowds as a single entity, and inhuman monster that's about to swallow me. In the middle of encroaching panic, it's easy to feel that I'm the only human left standing... in fact, I used to have the word, "alienation" going through my head over and over again... splitting in the middle till it sounded like "alien nation", which is where I sometimes fear I live.

But for the most part I know that I'm real, and so are other people.

Just not in crowds. They make me crazy.

Post Person... I'd be interested to know how you worked up the courage to ask that question? I know exactly what you're talking about, and I've been in a situation where that question has been asked (not of me) ... I don't know what to do if it's just me though facing that kind of situation? You could pm me if you don't want to derail the thread.

yeah it doesn't achieve much, just proves it to yourself that you are not dealing with a 'real' person, they tend to just 'freeze' in a brief suspended animation type state, but that's something! How I worked up the courage - it was becoming more obvious that I wasn't dealing with 'real' people, and at that stage of life I had nothing to lose, no status. It was actually my mother that I asked, boy was that a shock. Still is. 8O If it's just you then it's the same, you just ask the question, you can tell it to go in whatever words you choose but since the person is still an empty vessel, it can re-occupy them at any time so that's why it doesn't achieve much except to prove something to yourself.

Probably best not to do it to my boss then! Sure way to get fired as a crazy.

Besides, it's reminding me of Jesus' comments about "the last state of that person is worse than the first."

Probably I'm best to just keep praying for folks in that situation.

yeah i wouldn't do it in a work situation, although that's where it became obvious to me that I was dealing with something supernatural and not 'good' supernatural - that's how I became a christian. It sort of just confirms the workings of the supernatural. I dont' really know what to do about it other than being strong in my own faith and yeah prayer is probably the way to go. Any witnesses can often be empty shells themselves so they can deny/forget/shrug off (deaf and blind) what occurred.

What an entirely egocentric view of the universe...."I'm real, but other people are empty vessels for demons to travel in." Wow.

no, not really, not when you've experienced it multiple times over many years. technically everyone is a vacant space for demons to occupy, unless they do something about it.

I don't think other people are just empty vessels for demons to travel in, though we all have empty spaces. You ever hear the expression that we're born with a "god shaped hole in our hearts"? That's the gap. I do think that there are demons, and they love to torment people, so they hang on (or in) like parasites, draining the joy out of people's lives. I'm certain I had demons in my time.

How do you know if a demon is inside of you?

When I was a kid, I used to view myself as the only kind person in existence. I think it has to do with how many people in my life (family, teachers, classmates) were generally mean to me. As a result, no wonder I got the idea that I was the only kind person on the planet, while everyone else, with a handful of exceptions, were generally mean and vicious. The "exceptions" in this case were simply less vicious than others; I, on the other hand, was the only truly kind person I knew. As a result, I developed a strong affinity for animals, since they, in my beliefs, had no capacity to be mean. (Interestingly, I was somehow able to compartmentalize this, because meat dishes were among my favorites.) I think this is similar to the OP mentioning being the only real person, with me viewing myself as the only kind person.

I didn't know till it came out. But I'm not comfortable discussing this in too much detail, since I know most folks will just think I'm crazy, and dismiss it.

Okay, well I was just curious about it. If you don't mind telling me you can send me a PM or not if you don't want to. I am interested in the subject.

OMG this is me definitely. I've often thought that either a) I'm the real person or b) that I'm part of one universal mind trying figure itself out and everyone is a different aspect of that. Also I've often thought of the 'out of the room theory' as in when people are out of my sight they no longer exist until theres some need of contact again.

Moreso lately I've had thoughts that maybe the mind and the body arent in the same place and the body is simply a vessel used to explore this world (like a remote control camera so to speak).

I once had a theory that every human was a cell in a much bigger body. Infinite. Cells inside cells inside cells.

I still think of it when I'm driving. I look around at all the cars moving here and there, all going about their own business, doing their own thing to survive. I even picture the roads being like some complex cardiovascular system. Like cells we all have a nucleus, we all have a lifespan.

aswell as many of you I've had the familiar feeling that somethings not right with the way I look at other people, I generally get the feeling of being "the only one" and no one understands how i opperate and continually find myself thinking hard about the words I choose to comunicate. im not autistic as far as i know but i cant help but wonder is this is a possible sign.
However seeing all the comments on this thread (which I stumbled upon through google) It made me think of the vast majority of people that feel the same as me which in a way is comforting, surely looking at the similarity to in which people think should make me forget the whole worry... and let me think about other things of more importance?
