I've lived in Ireland since I was twelve (for ten years) but I still sound almost entirely Canadian to people. Some people pick up accents faster than others.

I have a very obvious Upper-Midwestern accent.

Strangely, I seem to be very "sensitive" to accent differences, to me they stick out even though nobody else notices them.
